Fascinating place: If you want to know how the real Romanian countryside looks like ... that's the place to go. Its rustic though; expect fetch your water from the well next to the river (which is good for diving into it on hot days too), and milk and eggs will be provided by the micro-farm next door. On the South side of the Carpathian mountains the weather is always good. Summer and autumn will provide you with abundant juicy fruit: cherries, apples, pears, plums are all around you. Facilities are basic: there is a bathroom where you will need to use the water you fetch from the well and the kitchen has both gas plates and an oven. Wood ovens are also available in each room that is, the living-sleeping room with two beds, the kitchen with yet another bed and the bathroom. Electricity is available and ready to charge smartphones which would need to be connected via remote service. The place is great for those who want to be off the beaten track. However the host, Florin, is very caring and his nearby parents would provide you with anything needed (including making arrangements for parking your car and carry your stuff up the 1 km from the river to the 100 year old country house).

Exactly as advertised. Lovely little place, very basic but that is what makes this place special. We were shown to the house by Florin's mother who was a charming lady and made us feel welcome even though she could not speak English - this was not a problem! If you are looking to get away from the world this is the ideal location. There were however a few things that we would have liked to have known before our arrival; there is no running water therefore the toilet has to be flushed by pouring water down it, there is no shower and you should bring your own drinking water. There is a damp smell in the property but it is old so this was expected. There was firewood available for a fire in the evening which was a great bonus.

Response from Florin:
Thank you Jonathan. It os true that for short staying it is hard to get use of all the local resources. Water, to drink or for shower, is nearby in a fountain. Anyway, we thank you for the nice words and hope the damp smell will be better as the house was not used for 20 years, even if it was fresh painted. You are more than welcome anytime ! It was nice having you here. Thanks for the beers :)

This is one of those rare places you might find once while travelling. It’s the kind of home that helps you forget about everything unimportant in life. If you’re tired of cities or looking for a place to escape and relax, I cannot recommend this property highly enough. When I arrived in Romania, Florin picked me up and we travelled to Calvini, a small town 2.5 hours outside of Bucharest. As I had arrived late, Florin’s parents let me stay the night with them. Like Florin, they were welcoming and all too willing to provide dinner and drinks. The following morning, Florin led me away from the main road, across a shallow riverbed and over one of the bridges you can see in his photos. We then walked along a path that led up through the trees and eventually reached his house. It’s a simple building but it has everything you need. I lived there for a month without issue. The property is fairly large, filled with trees and extremely quiet. There are plenty of walking trails and different areas to hike, though admittedly I spent most days reading in my hammock. While there, you’ll likely see horses, goats and an assortment of other animals. An elderly woman lives nearby and I had the opportunity to buy vegetables, cheese, polenta and milk from her. Florin’s mother was also able to provide jam, bread and honey. The food is all fresh. On more than one occasion my neighbour led me into her garden and simply pulled up the vegetables I wanted. However, of everything I tried, the jam was by far the best. By the end of my stay all I ever felt like eating was bread, jam and goat cheese. But if you do like a bit more variety in your diet, there is a small store on the other side of the river, around ten minutes away by foot. Everyone I encountered was trustworthy and hospitable. In particular, Florin was always ready to help. When I first arrived, he provided me with a phone and any time I called, he happily arranged whatever it was I needed. However, unless I contacted him first, he left me alone and let me enjoy the property in peace. I would fly back to Romania just to stay here again.
