About this listing

A home built in 1912, this home is located in the Banker's Hill area of San Diego. We have three rooms listed and available at this location. Two people per room. Maximum 14 day stay. Two night minimum stay, no cleaning fee.

The space

Note: $50 price per night is for ONE person. Second person $15.00 per night.

You are welcome to stay in the HOUSE up till 2 PM the day of your check out. If another guest is coming after your stay, however, please leave the ROOM by noon so that it can be cleaned for the next guest.

Travel back in time as you relax in a home constructed in 1912. Period piece furniture through out gives you the feel of a simpler time and less hectic life. The furniture in the room and home was made between the late 1800 and the 1940's. Relax pool side as or take a stroll around the block. This is one of the last true neighborhoods in San Diego.

The neighborhood is quite but very close to city activities. Ten minute walk to Hillcrest or Balboa Park, Five minute drive to downtown or Little Italy.

House is between downtown and Hillcrest. Close to Balboa Park, the bay, beaches, and airport. Bus lines are seconds away. A private room with shower and Full Size Futon bed. (I also have two additional rooms, with real beds, available, in case you are more than 2 people.)

Kitchen available for light cooking. Front porch, backyard pool. (Hot tub only if you stay 3 or more days).
(I am a jazz musician and practice during daylight hours).

If you have any questions, please ask. I am a pretty easy going guy!

Guest access

Your room and bath on the second floor. All common areas of house on first floor, only. Front and rear yards. Come and go as you please. Night lights are on throughout the house.

Interaction with guests

Average. Mostly up to the guest, however, I do work out of my home, so you are likely to see me.

Other things to note

A majority of the proceeds collected from your stay go to THE NEPAL TIGER PROJECT. A non-profit doing tiger research.

I also have two additional rooms available, if you are looking for more room!

I do not jack my room prices up for events such as Comic-Con or Pride, so book early!

Beautiful place near lively areas. Super nice area and clean. Very close to the convention center. Most lyft or Uber rides only have about a 2-3 min wait time and you'll be at any lively area in 8-15 min. Would stay here again if I am going to be in the area.

I really enjoyed my stay! The historic house was beautiful and conveniently located. John was a great host and was very helpful with things to do around San Diego. I enjoyed the use of the lovely pool and back yard and a private bathroom. I definitely recommend it if you want a great affordable house to stay in while you enjoy San Diego!

Great location and great value. The room and house are just as described and pictured. A lovely older house that has 3 rooms for guests. This room was just perfect for me, but might feel too cozy for some couples. I found the futon to be very comfortable. The host is friendly and helpful. The location was quiet and the entire house nice and clean. Highly recommended.

Gorgeous house w/ awesome amenities. Close to airport, downtown, and beaches. John is an amazing host! He's super friendly, down-to-earth, and he even picked me up from the airport after my flight's arrival time got delayed till just after midnight. The stay at Gallagher house was exactly what I was looking for. Recommend it to anyone visiting San Diego.

John's home is simply stunning. It has all the charm of a home in the 1900's as if you truly lived in that era. I couldn't get enough of all the antiques, if you're into that sort of thing. Our room(orange walls) was plenty comfortable and he had extra linens, towels and other staple items for your use. He was open to us using his entire home and was usually available to answer any questions we had. He was great to engage in conversation with and helped my husband and I out with awesome local recommendations. John was very kind and never steered us wrong. Though he has several rooms that use the shared spaces, we were the only ones there at the time making the home feel that much more cozy. The location is also excellent. Balboa park, the zoo and good restaurants are all within walking distance and parking was fairly easy to find. He lives in a beautiful neighborhood so just going for a stroll in the area was very nice. Wish we had stayed longer but I highly recommend staying with John and his beautiful home.
