Code Time Lodge - where time stands still - Okarito - a place that time has barely touched....Choose from 2 self-contained units or combine them for your own private haven-comfortable, quiet. The Gold Sands unit has king bed plus natural lit dining

The space

The Gold Sands unit is one of two separate apartments at Code Time Lodge - named for the history of Okarito's mid-1880's gold rush, the seaside village is a quiet place for restoration of the soul, a place to get back in touch with nature, to feel your creative and natural outdoor spirit revive. The apartments each have natural light in the kitchenette/seating areas then step up through patio doors into the main bedroom - Gold Sands has a king bed, sofa and wood burner. The bathroom is separated by sliding wood doors - there are many wooden features throughout.
This unit has doors opening to a private sunfilled courtyard which looks out to the Okarito Wetlands and the Southern Alps.

Guest access

This indoor/outdoor flowing apartments is self-contained - both units can also be hired as one giving you the entire space as a private haven.

Interaction with guests

Having built Code Time Lodge myself, I am a builder by trade. I am generally around the property and live next door in the lodge which will soon be open for guest meals.

Other things to note

Okarito is a small, relatively remote village - there are no shops or restaurants here, but there is plenty to do if you love the outdoors. We offer package rates with the local Okarito Boat Tours who run ecotours of the Okarito lagoon and waterways - learn what makes this environment so unique. There are also kayak rentals available as well as nocturnal kiwi tours. Okarito has some famous west coast walks - the Trig lookout and 3 Mile Lagoon offers a forested pack track and beach walk. Franz Josef Glacier is just 20-25 minutes drive and offers access to the Glaciers as well as plenty of shops and cafes.

Great little town and the apartments are fantastic. Shane was very welcoming and had set a fire when we arrived. Plenty of breakfast provisions too!

Awesome, secluded place. Very relaxing with lots of walks in Okarito. It's a nice communal area so would be great with a large group but even the two of us loved it and how the room was designed was very very cool.

Shane's place is beautifully done, with wonderful wooden features and a well thought out layout for two, we loved sitting by the log burner. The location is secluded, but only a short drive to Franz Josef so it's perfect for someone who wants a more unique stay than the standard in-town spot. It's only a short walk from the beach too. As a host Shane was accommodating and on hand if we needed anything. Lovely place, highly recommend it.

Great place! The building is functional and you can see it's the fruit of great endeavours. It's warm (due to the fire heater which makes it a cosy view) and well equipped (hair dryer, cooker, and fast wifi). During the days we took the kayaks out (2minutes walk). Kayaking across the Lagoon with the views of the alps is a remarkable experience. Would definitely recommend staying here is you are in glacier country

Shane's place was creative and functional and in a very beautiful area. We loved our stay here and wished we had another night. Shane had a fire going when we arrived and even though the weather was cool we stayed toasty. Shane is a kind, gentle man and we enjoyed meeting him. This is an easy 25 min drive to Franz Josef.
