Minutes from Pippin Hill, our cottage is in the village of Batesville, 20 minutes from Charlottesville, and conveniently near Monticello and Wintergreen. We are also close to Cardinal Point, Veritas, Pollak, King Family Vineyards, and a dozen other local wineries. The 200-year old cottage has a lovely screened porch for outdoor dining, full kitchen with utensils and is decorated with antiques and local art. There grounds feature a large private lawn and sitting areas beside the Batesville creek.
Our cottage is more than 200 years old with three floors. The kitchen and living room are open plan with lots of windows and light. A screened eating porch faces the grounds and creek. The master bedroom is on the second floor with creek views. Please note that the third floor is a loft-style bedroom with two twin beds, suitable for children ages 9+. There is one bathroom in the cottage, accessible through the master bedroom. There is very little privacy between these rooms, so this may not be suitable for two couples, unless you know each other very well and want to flip for the master bed.
Guests have the whole cottage to themselves, as well as run of the lawn and garden areas. Guests are asked to respect the privacy of other guests and tenants living in the main house next door.
Interaction with guests
The proprietor lives on the grounds and is happy to meet guests and help out, as needed, or leave guests to enjoy their privacy.
Other things to note
Across the street on Plank Road, The Batesville Market is a 100-year old historic country store. They have basic groceries, convenience items and a deli serving delicious food with an emphasis on local and organic/sustainable food. They also have live music every Saturday night, featuring some of the most talented musicians in Central Virginia.
No pets or smoking in the cottage. Please treat the place like you would your own house.
From Dec 6 - 25, 2017 the minimum stay is 1 night.
We are sophisticated travelers, so our primary influence is: "What kind of place would I like to stay when I'm traveling?" We believe that this approach has led to attracting like-minded travelers, who love the decor, artwork, landscape and design sensibility. Visitors have enjoyed their time here, and we've really enjoyed meeting everyone... this is probably why we've been fortunate to have such great reviews, so far!
