About this listing
A ground floor room, priced for a single individual (for double occupancy rates see "The Wolfs Den 2"). This room has a queen bed, and a private bath. Breakfast is simple, organic, mostly local, and gluten free. You will have a full kitchen, sauna, wood stove, several common spaces, two decks and an outdoor grill. The owner has their own private and separate apartment so you won't feel like you have to tip toe around, make yourself at home!
This house was built in the early 70’s, by the electrician for the first boring of the Eisenhower Tunnel, it was built to resemble a mine tipple, reflecting the local history of the area. It is situated in one of the older neighborhoods in Silverthorne, on the side of Ptarmigan Mountain. It is tucked away, yet the location is close to everything. My mother ran the house as Ptarmigan Mountain Bed and Breakfast during the 80’s, and I now carry on the torch, as I have renovated the house and reopened it as Ptarmigans Nest Bed and Breakfast ( July 2015). I guess this makes me a third generation innkeeper!
The Ptarmigans Nest Bed and Breakfast has 5 rooms. Three of the rooms have private baths, while the remaining two rooms share a bath and are dormitory style. Guests enjoy the use of a full kitchen, music room (feel free to play our piano, or ukulele!), living room, dining area by a wood burning stove, two decks, an outdoor gas grill, and a sauna. It is very private as we have our own separate living quarters. We also have a small greenhouse in back, that you are more than welcome to check out.
We do love and allow pets, however there is a $25 fee per pet and they are not allowed to be left in the rooms unattended (sorry, no exceptions), there is a great place nearby called The Dillon Dog Den, which has great doggy daycare services.
We are just a couple miles off of 1-70. Many guests arrive to Summit County in an airport van, several different companies offer door to door service. Colorado Mountain Express, Summit Express, Fresh Tracks Transportation, Mountain Shuttle etc, Rates vary, depending on the time of year. We are an hour and a half drive from the Denver International Airport.
We have the best of both world here, as we are right in Silverthorne, so there are many activities within walking or riding distance, we are minutes from 5 major ski areas and many beautiful mountains. We are tucked back into a peaceful neighborhood and we have beautiful views of The Rocky Mountains.
Interaction with guests
We serve a gratuitous, simple breakfast. We use food that is high quality, organic, gluten free and mostly local (we buy from a local organic farmer). Breakfast is not super fancy, we keep it simple.
We live on the garden level, so we are always nearby for questions or concerns. As I was born and raised here, feel free to ask about hikes, things to do, discounted lift tickets, etc etc.
The Ptarmigans Nest B n B, has excellent views of Buffalo Mt, Red Mt, and Peak 1. The Ptarmigans Nest B n B, is a short walk away from the Blue River (with gold medal fishing), the bike path system, the library, The Silverthorne Recreation Center, Rainbow Park, The Silverthorne Factory Stores, The Summit Stage (Summits free bus line), Uncle Johns Farm Stand, hiking trails, and a handful of bars, restaurants, and coffee shops.
The Summit Stage is a free local bus that has several bus stops between 3-6 blocks away. It goes to all of the local ski resorts in Summit County (Keystone, Copper Mt, A-Basin, and Breckenridge). If you are going to Vail or Loveland you will definitely need to arrange transportation (sometimes carpooling with someone here may be an option). The bike path is two blocks away...from there you can ride around Lake Dillon or even go all the way to Vail or even Glenwood Springs!
