About this listing

Looking for a relaxing getaway in the woods? This cozy 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath home is waiting for you! Nestled 9 miles from downtown Port Angeles, this home offers a great launching point for all your adventures on the Olympic Peninsula!

The space

Less than 1 mile from the Elwha beach and 9 miles outside of downtown Port Angeles, this home is just the place to come relax, explore & enjoy all that is around you! You can spread out on the patio, get cozy in the house, go for a hike, surf (you can hear the break from the house!) and so much more! Built in 2006, we have incorporated natural fir throughout the house that were harvested from the property and milled on-site, making this a unique home. The large kitchen space provides ample elbow room for the entire family, and is fully equipped with a duel fuel gas range/oven, microwave, and plenty of counter space. The master bedroom has a nice view of the Olympic Mountains. The other two guest rooms (one with a full and one with a queen bed) share a bathroom with dual sinks and a bathtub/shower. The finished basement serves as a fourth bedroom. We are on a four acre lot off of a private road, so there is plenty of privacy.

Guest access

All spaces in and around the home are yours to enjoy! The garden (when in bloom) is yours to wander & pick any veggies or flowers! You've also got: outdoor gas grill, plenty of parking-including room for an RV or boat trailer, firewood for fire pit, and a large patio area!

Interaction with guests

I am also here to help with anything you may need! I live on the property, about 150 feet away on the east side of the garden. I have lived and worked in the outdoors on the Olympic Peninsula for over 15 years. As a field biologist, I will gladly offer insights into the largest salmon restoration project in history- the removal of two dams on the Elwha River. I can also connect you with local fishing, rafting, and kayaking guides.

Other things to note

Fisherman (and fisherwoman!) we are only 15 minutes from the boat launch on Ediz Hook. The mouth of the Elwha river and newly formed beach are minutes away and a great spot for surfing. We are 15 minutes away from Salt Creek and Crescent Beach which is also great for surfing and exploring tide pools. We are only 2 miles away from the Olympic Adventure Route trailhead, which is great for hiking, mountain biking, even horseback riding! Pop into town and hop on board of the MV Coho for a day trip to Victoria British Columbia! I am also here to help with anything you may need. If you love to cook, then you'll love the kitchen and outdoor grill.

This house is a beautiful home, in a quiet and scenic location. Nice patio with firepit, just lovely exposed wood throughout the immaculate and nicely decorated, home. James has thoughtfully provided all the kitchen equipment one could want, all in good working order. My daughter loves birds and spotted many species in the garden and trees. There are trails within walking distance leading down to the beach at the mouth of the Elwha river. The Elwha former dam site at Glines Canyon in the Olympic National Park is very easy to get to, a great place to visit and hike. It's about 18 minutes to get to Port Angeles, and a bit more to Sequim where we had a family event. James is a very nice host, and so is his friendly dog. I would definitely go back next time I am in Port Angeles.

This was a perfect spot and situation for our annual family summer trip, which included my family, my sister's family, and my parents. The house was just right for 3 couples and 2 kids. I have stayed in many an Airbnb and have yet to encounter James's level of hospitality (until now)...not only did he welcome us warmly onto his huge estate and invite us to partake of the cherries from his tree and the flowers and veggies from his wild garden, but he also brought us crab and salmon, both freshly caught and cooked by himself. The salmon was The Best Smoked Salmon I have ever had in my life. We ranged in age from 1 to 73 and all of us thoroughly enjoyed the daily visits from James's baby goats and his super friendly and sweet dog, Caddis. The kitchen is extremely well stocked and organized and big enough for a large group to cook in, and the huge patio and fire pit made for fun, relaxing gatherings every afternoon and evening. James provided a big stack of firewood and a bluetooth speaker for excellent outdoor times. As a field biologist, James is an invaluable resource for anyone interested in exploring the majestic beauty of the Olympic Peninsula and especially for learning about and touring the Elwha River restoration project. We watched the DVD "Return of the River" that he provided, which was a highly informative and moving overview of the largest dam removal project in history, then went to explore the newly formed beach at the mouth of the river and the Glines Canyon Spillway Overlook, where you can stand on what remains of the dam and enjoy dramatic views of the canyon and the area where Lake Mills used to be, and where the river's ecosystem is now coming back to life with a massive revegetation and restoration project. Hurricane Ridge is also close by and provides breathtaking views of the Olympics. All three of these spots were easily accessed by two small children and a person in their 70s with a busted knee. I'm a runner and really enjoyed the well-maintained nearby trails and the carless paved roads in the deep woods. The beach at the river's mouth is only 20 to 30 minutes away on foot and I can't wait to go back and spend a full day there. Lastly, downtown Port Angeles is about 15 minutes by car -- don't miss Little Devil's Lunchbox for burritos and Port Book & News, a well curated indie bookshop.

It is indeed ' a home away from home' while visiting the Olympic National Park. Cozy, clean and well stocked, it had everything we needed.

This is a great house. We stayed here for four nights while visiting the National Park. It has everything you could possibly need in a great location. We walked to the beach one afternoon and drove up to Crescent Lake another afternoon. Both are less than 30 minutes away. My kids loved the dog and the goats who run freely outside and were frequently hanging out on the patio with us. If you don't like animals, this may be a problem for you. We loved having them visit and my kids now want goats. The kitchen has tons of pots, pans, plates, etc. You couldn't ask for more. Everything we ever needed was there. We wanted to swim, and there was a stack of beach towels. We wanted to do laundry, and there was not only a huge jug of detergent, but also a laundry basket. James really thought of everything. We would certainly stay here again.

James was a perfect host and the house was comfortable, clean and well equipped. Our family of five, including two teenagers and a twenty-something, were incredibly comfortable in James' house. We had campfires every night after touring the northern part of Olympic National Park. James was friendly and helpful, sharing fishing and touring tips. we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

I enjoy fishing, snorkeling rivers, hunting, mountain biking, hiking, water skiing, and snow skiing. I've been a fisheries field technician off and on for the past 16 years, and hold a M.S. from University of Washington.
