Nestled into 200 acres of natural bush, Babenorek Studio overlooks open farmland and rolling hills. Our solar powered studio is constructed from lime rendered straw bales, it is cool in summer and warm in winter. We are 3 km from Deans Marsh & 22 km from Lorne & The Great Ocean Rd.

The space
We want you to be comfortable during your stay and well suited to the eco accommodation that we provide so we ask that you please read ALL the Information on our site to see that it will be just right for your relaxing holiday!
Our photo gallery and our fabulous reviews show why Babenorek eco studio is the perfect place for you to switch off your phone and relax in front of our wood fire with a cold beer or a glass of wine, a good book or a game of scrabble.
Beautiful bush walking starts at our front gate and cool waterfalls, lush fern gully's and spectacular beaches are just a short drive away.

The Studio...

Babenorek Studio was hand built by us and a local builder nearly twenty years ago to live in with our three young children while we built our family home close by. It is constructed from lime rendered straw bales therefore the walls are extremely well insulated, making it refreshingly cool in summer with no need for air conditioning, and snug and warm in winter by our Nectre wood fire.
Recycled timbers and preloved windows were used throughout the build. An Oregon goal post from a country school serves as a handrail for the stairs. Besides being an important part of our sustainable building practice these materials add to its rustic, homely appeal. Our earthen floor and internal rendered mud brick wall create soft, cozy surfaces that invite you to come in and make yourself at home.
Upstairs is a queen size bed and two comfortable single beds. Downstairs there is a 4 burner cook-top and gas oven and a small but functional kitchen area. A small fridge will store enough food and drinks for a few days. The Nectre wood fire provides warmth to the whole studio and can also boil the kettle on for a cuppa!
The spacious bathroom with views to the tree tops includes a water-less composting toilet and a shower that uses pure Otway's rainwater. There is also an outside shower to wash the sand off when you get back from the beach in summer or cool off under on a hot night.
Babenorek Studio is the perfect place to unplug, relax and enjoy!

Where you’ll be

Deans Marsh, Victoria, Australia

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Gadubanad people, the traditional custodians of the land on which we live.

Deans Marsh is now a small rural farming town situated on the edge of the Otway Ranges NP. It has a creative and vibrant artistic community with Open Studio weekends, Gallery's and live music at local Wineries and the infamous Marshian's Café.
You can link up with the historic Coal Train Walk at our front gate and there are many other walks and waterfalls nearby in the beautiful Otway Ranges. The eight day Great Ocean Walk begins at Apollo Bay and can also be walked in day sections.
Restaurants, cafes and The Deans Marsh Store all offer great coffee and good food. Nearby berry farms are open seasonally. The coastal town of Lorne is a 25 minute drive and has and excellent variety of places to eat out from pizza to high end dining.
The magnificent coast and the Great Ocean Road is a scenic 25 min drive away through tall lush Otway National Park rain forest.
