Stay on this lovely individual, comfortable boat in the heart of London and experience the capital from a different point of view.
Jessie is a 57 foot canal boat (or narrowboat) completed in 2011. She is 6 foot 10 inches wide. She can sleep 4 people in comfort, for 2 she is luxurious. The boat has a warm inviting interior and space on deck to sit and watch the world go by. The appropriately named Little Venice (a name coined by the poet Robert Browning) is a very pretty corner of London, famous as home to hundreds of beautiful canal boats and convenient base from which to explore the capital. Two underground stations and good bus routes to all parts of the city are a short walk away. There is something very special about returning to the peace and quiet of the canal after a day in the city. There are lots of local pubs, restaurants, cafe and shops in the immediate neighbourhood.
Free Wifi connection.
The sleeping accommodation is made up of a double cabin at the front with doors to a small but comfortable front deck. There are two single bunk beds to the centre of the boat and a very comfortable sofa which flattens out to a double bed in the living area. Which you choose to use is up to you.
The bathroom has a shower, a fully flushing toilet, and a wash basin with shaving point.
The living area is to the centre of the boat with a solid fuel stove for chilly evenings, a wall mounted digital TV (DVD/CD player). There is a large comfy sofa/bed (storage underneath for bedding). A folding dinning table and additional chairs allows for 6 place setting.
The galley has a gas hob and oven with grill, a good size fridge with freezer compartment, a sink and draining board, cupboards and drawers housing all the usual kitchen equipment.
Water is held in a tank onboard and needs topping up every few days (depending on your usage). This will be done by your host. Hot water is generated from the engine.
In the winter months heating is by the solid fuel stove which burns a combination of smokeless coal and logs which are provided. The stove can be controlled and kept going 24 hours but you need to allow for this in your daily routine....ie loading stove before going out and a little attention on your return. It keeps the boat warm and cosy. An eco fan assists circulation.
Living on board is not quite like a conventional house and needs an understanding and patience with the natural limitations. It may therefore not be for everyone. Power is supplied from Jessie's battery via an inverter which supplies numerous 240 volt power points around the boat. The inverter restricts your use to 1500 watts at one time. Running the engine for a period each day takes care of the batteries and heats the water. Instructions will be given by your host who will be on call should you have a problem.

A charming, perfectly maintained, well equipped, comfortable unique escape from typical London hotels. Wonderful central location and charm. This isn't a hotel - so if simply tasks like starting a fire in a wood stove or running the engine a bit to heat water for a shower don't excite you, then you should stay in a hotel. If however, your sense of adventure aligns with your sense of comfort then stay onboard Jessie.
Meg will leave you well equipped and quickly show you the couple of tasks necessary to live on the water. Then relax in solitude.
The boat is exactly as described and I'm eager to return!
We had a lovely time on Meg's boat. Meg is a gracious and caring host who was available within minutes the few times we had questions. It is obvious she takes great care to make sure the boat is comfortable and has everything one needs, with a very clever use of space. Thanks Meg for allowing us to experience a week on a boat, making it a very special trip to London!
What a beautiful comfortable and cosy boat in a superb location. Meg was wonderful and made us feel extraordinarily welcome. Just a short walk or Boris Bike to everything exciting London has to offer and having a floating home to go back to was perfect. We would definitely book again. Thank you Meg.
We stayed on Jesse for New Years 2014 and it was just as wonderful as everyone described. Meg is a lovely lady and helpful beyond belief. We chose Jesse based on comments here about how memorable the stay would be and that was certainly the case. Jesse is well maintained and very comfortable. Access to the area is easy with Paddington a short walk in one direction and a tube station even closer, its about two stops to Oxford Circus. Quite a classy little yacht. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking to stay in central London.
It is no coincidence that Meg and Jessie have sterling reviews. One could hardly ask for a more responsive, helpful, thoughtful and welcoming host than Meg. The boat is equally lovely and a delight to experience. I share the sentiments of other guests who did not want to go! Tranquility is hardly abundant at holiday time in a place as busy as London but Jesse is the exception. Just ask the swans.
I have spent four wonderful days in London!
Thank to Meg and her lovely boat Jesie!
I couldn't resist to spend my holidays on the boat.
It is carefully looked after, perfectly clean and cousy.
You will find all the facilities on board. The main element
was a fireplace, which was fun to kindle and very easy
too. Meg was incredibly helpful and kindly was looked
after fireplace , what helped keeping our boat warm.
A very good location and just a few minutes to a tube.
We had an amazing time staying on Jessie and felt very much at home (actually so much that we didn't want to leave ;) ). Meg is a great host who made us feel welcome and well looked after!
A very memorable break aboard a beautiful boat. Thank you for sharing Jesse with us.
My husband and I just spent the most wonderful weekend staying aboard Jessie the Narrowboat. Jessie is perfectly situated, clean and charming.
Meg was a wonderful host who was patient and efficient throughout the booking process and spent time explaining the necessities on arrival. Our morning was greeted by sunshine and ducks and our evenings spent curling up by the warm fire.
The living accommodation is cosy and the kitchen well-equipped with everything you need. We decided to make the most of our time and cook dinner and breakfast onboard with fruits, teas and condiments well stocked in the cupboards.
We're definitely coming back on Jessie again and are even considering a Narrowboat holiday now.
Meg was a wonderful host; very helpful and welcoming and always on hand to answer queries. We had a fantastic time and can not recommend staying on Jessie more highly.
