Location

All Cannings, Devizes , Wiltshire, United Kingdom

All Cannings is a beautiful village in an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB). Nestled at the foot of the Wiltshire downs and Ridgeway, historic records note its importance as a significant Iron age settlement. The house is located on the edge of the village with spectacular views over fields towards the famous White Horse downs, with plenty of parking in a private drive. 5 minutes walk from the well stocked village shop and outstanding local pub The Kings Arms - famous for it's food, wine and real ales. Between the pretty market towns of Devizes and Marlborough, the house is only 15 minutes from a train station taking you directly to London in around an hour. Walk out from the house onto open down land or along the canal path which runs through the village with great pubs along the way. Go up onto the ridgeway to see famous Wiltshire long barrows and the White horse carved into the chalky hill or walk to the world famous Avebury stone circle. Great for cycling or golf or in Summer, wild swimming in various locations nearby. You can hire a canal boat locally or an overnight stay in a horse drawn carriage, or go horse riding/paragliding too! (details in the guestbook) Marlborough (15 mins drive) has a Waitrose, Rick Stein restaurant, 'Cook' shop and together with Devizes (10 mins drive) has weekly markets. Both towns have leisure centres, supermarkets, a variety of antique and independent shops. You are spoiled for choice with great local pubs, serving food and open 7 days a week, one of which is Michelin starred! The ancient stone circle historic sites of Stonehenge and Avebury (nearby) in Wiltshire are well worth a visit. Salisbury cathedral, theatre and historic museums and Wilton House are both 45 minutes drive away and the lovely Georgian town of Bath an hour's drive. National Trust Lacock Abbey, Fox Talbot museum and village location of many period dramas is a 30 minute drive and a great day out.
Longleat or Cotswold wildlife park are also great places to visit especially with children. There are lovely open walks direct from the house along the canal path running through the village or out into the open countryside including up on to the historic Ridgeway.
