About this listing
Lyckebo is a cosy woodcabin set in the forest, overlooking a huge garden. Ever since we discovered it, and it's location we have loved coming here as often as we can, and when we can't we rent it so others can enjoy it too!
The Wood Cabin:
Lyckebo is a cosy wood cabin situated in an opening in the forest overlooking a huge private garden and a lake in the distance.
Lyckebo is perfect for families with children and/or pets - or just couples who want to chill out in the country.
It will sleep 4 comfortably, 6 if you are good friends (the sixth person will have to sleep on a mattress)-:)
It has two bedrooms: Master bedroom with a double bed. (Queen size) and a kids bedroom with 1 X bunkbed (for either kids or adults) and toys.
The living room also has a daybed that could sleep an extra person (plus an extra mattress that could sleep an extra person either in living room floor or on floor in kids room).
The kitchen is fully equipped with oven and hob, fridge freezer, cutlery and crockery, pots and pans etc. The Kitchen table seats 7 (if you sit close) with views over the garden and lake (highchair for babies available too)
The living room has panoramic views from floor to ceiling windows. Sofas and armchairs, books, stereo (with facility to play your iPod and CD's), games and information about the area. There is also a woodburning stove for cosyness on colder evenings.
Bathroom with shower, WC and washing machine (to be used lighly in summer to not drain the well)
Veranda with tables and chairs that seats 5-6 - sheltered and also has a patio heater for when the chill sets in.
The rocky but well maintained garden has array of plants, shrubs, herbs, lawn and medow. You can find berries (wild strawberries, blueberries, gooseberries, black and red currants) rhubarb and chanterelle mushrooms.
There are several sets of garden furniture dotted around the garden (so you can follow the sun;-). There are also swings, trampoline hammocks, barbecues, paddling pool, sandpit, games etc. (to be used at own risk, please supervise kids - swings might need fixing if ropes gone weak)
We have 3 bikes that you can use - one childsize (7-10years) and two and adults' (you can hire proper mountain bikes in different sizes in Ulricehamn, the nearest town)
Woodburning hot tub for 6-8 people
The lake is a short walk away and has a nice, private beach for swimming in peace. Bredsjon together with several other fishing lakes close by are regarded as the best in the area (we have old rowing boat you can use)
You can access all parts of the space..The cottage is rented on 'self catering' basis.
This means you will have to bring own sheets and towels (duvets, blankets and pillows are there for you to use) and you will be expected to clean the house carefully (as you would like to find it, ready for the next guest that comes after you)
However, if this is an issue we can hire a cleaner to clean after you (500kr) and/or you can borrow sheets/towels (200kr to cover laundry) - let us know in advance please so we can arrange it.
Please note that the hot tub is fiddly and a hit and miss to set up. It takes quite a bit of time to prepare and we cannot promise you can get it to work (but you are welcome to do so!)
Please note also that we typically rent for a whole week - Saturday to Saturday. We may be able to make exception during low season.
Interaction with guests
We will leave contact details to ourselves (we live in London), and to my mother who lives nearby for emergencies and queries.
Lyckebo is in a private setting in the forest, with lots of walking opportunities or just lazy days in the garden. We have one or two neighbours but they keep themselves to themselves.
You pass a farm and a few other holiday homes on your way to Lyckebo from the main road - but that's about 3 or 4 houses in 3 km - so if you are looking to get away, this really is the place.
The forest is full of berries and mushrooms and great for foraging - just never ask a Swede where their mushroom places are, its top secret knowledge!
There is a cyckling path that goes into Ulricehamn, the nearest town - about 10km. Alternatively you can drive (about 10mins)
Urichamn is a nice little town situated by a bigger lake and it has a beach, and a few nice cafe's, retsaurants and shops.
The are cycling paths around the lake, adventure sport centre down by 'Byggan' where you can rent bikes and watersports activities, bowling, swimming pool, riding tours, canoe hire, golf course and ski centre in the winter.
See (URL HIDDEN) - for more information about the local town on the edge of Asunden lake
Nearest 'big town' (and the airport) is Gothenburg which is about 1 hr drive (maybe a bit less to the airport). Favourite things to do in Gothenburg are:
- take a boat or ferry out to any of the islands in the archipelago
- go to Liseberg, a super fun amusement park for all ages
- retail therapy!!!
- go to any of the nice Micheline star fish restaurants
Rent a car!
We will give you exact co-ordinated upon booking
Other things to note
Please note that this is a 'get away' from it all holiday. Its rustic, its remote, it has insects in the air, and moose roaming the woods. It is NOT a luxury hotel. It does not have TV, Wifi or lots of fancy stuff. But its really cosy and if you like retro, then you will love it!
As is customary when renting cottage in Sweden end of tenancy cleaning is responsibility of the guest, and you are expected to bring your own towels and sheets.
If this isn't possible for you, let us know in advance and we will arrange something !
Its our second home where we come to wind down, we hope you will treat it like your home too during your stay, feel at ease, have a good time - and leave it like you found it. Clean and tidy. End of tenancy cleaning can be arrange for a fee (500 SEK), just let us know. And sheets & towels can be hired for 300 SEK (to cover laundry)
We're a family living in north London.
