This new, spacious, light-filled apartment is set up for the perfect Washington D.C. stay. Park your car for free, have a blast with the Netflix and Wii, get a great night's sleep, and go enjoy the city we love so much!

The space
If you're in a hurry here's the deal:

Spacious Setting - The English basement apartment is spacious, private, and filled with natural light from many windows.

Extra sofa bed - There is one queen sized bed in the bedroom and the living room sofa can be pulled out into a queen sized bed.

Convenience - We stock the kitchenette with all the kitchen ware you'll need if you decide to do some cooking and have a great coffee maker with coffee provided.

Great location - The neighborhood is quiet and great public transit makes accessing the many nearby attractions easy! The U.S. Capitol is only 2.5 miles away and the White House is 3 miles away. A 20 minute walk will get you to the Brookland Metro Station or we are located near the two major bus lines in DC (the 80 buses and the H buses).

Fun space - Enjoy the card decks, free Netflix, and a Wii with 12 games and 3 controllers.

Free Parking - We offer our guests one free guest parking pass that can be used on our street. There is ample street parking in our neighborhood and we have never had any issues with theft or damage.

--Laundry - we have recently updated the apartment to add a Deluxe washer and dryer available for your use.

Guest access
Coded entry - We send you the access code before you arrive which allows for easy entry at your convenience at any time. The full apartment is yours to enjoy!

Other things to note
Access/Mobility Concerns: There are several steps from the sidewalk up to the house and then another few down to the front entrance of the apartment. Also, this is an English basement and while the ceiling height is generous in the main living areas, there are a few bulkheads, which may prove troublesome for those who are over 6 foot 2.

Noise: This is a beautiful historic row house so while the apartment ceiling is well-insulated, sound may travel a bit. We'll be sure there is not a dance party while you are visiting, and ask that you show the same courtesy.

Timing: Check-in is anytime after 3:00pm, check-out is 11:00am.

Heating and Air Conditioning - The unit is heated and cooled using a HVAC forced air system. Temperature is adjusted by messaging the host who controls the temperature for the whole house. Fans and space heaters are also provided. The HVAC unit is located in a closet in the apartment and the fan can be heard when operating.

Laundry: The unit has a deluxe washer and dryer available for your use.

Cleaning: The apartment is professionally cleaned in between every stay.

Public transit cards: There are SmartTrip cards (for much easier use of the bus and metro/subway) available in the apartment for use. We use an honors system and ask that you return the cards recharged with whatever you used so the next guest can enjoy the same privilege.

A Washington post article describes our neighborhood like this: “Think of it as an island of calm off North Capitol's busy axis." We couldn't agree more. Read the article to get a feel for the neighborhood (search for "The Stronghold Neighborhood of Northeast DC" and click the Washington Post article).

Our neighborhood is very diverse in every way, as is all of D.C., and most urban centers in the United States.

The neighborhood is an extension of Bloomingdale called Stronghold. It is a small and quiet neighborhood with friendly neighbors. Guests need to be very conscious and respectful of the neighbors (no loud noise at night).

The U.S. Capitol is visible from the end of our street and is 2.5 miles away. The White House is 3 miles away.

There are many nearby options for eating and shopping:

A 15-min walk in one direction takes you to the heart of Bloomingdale, where you will find excellent neighborhood restaurants and bars, including Big Bear Cafe, Rustik Tavern, and Red Hen as well as a yoga studio, and a farmer's market during the summer and fall.

A 20-minute walk in another direction takes you to the campus of Catholic University, which features a brand new arts and entertainment development called Monroe Market with artists' studios, restaurants, a Barnes & Noble bookstore, a seasonal farmer's market and live music on Thursdays and Fridays. There's also nearby dance classes and yoga/pilates.

A nearby bus will get you to the 11th Street ‘hip strip' in 7 minutes and Columbia Heights neighborhood/Metro Station in 10 minutes where your day or night life will kick into high gear! Everything is there: coffee shops, fast casual food options, nicer restaurants, and more. Our favorites are Meridian Pint, Maple, Red Rocks, Pho 14, and The Coupe.

We are also within walking distance to Washington Hospital Center and Children's National Hospital for families who need a place to stay for easy access to loved ones who may be there.

We are also within walking distance of Catholic University, Howard University, and Trinity College.

Currently, I spend most of my time developing plans to open a charter school in Washington DC for low-income and under-represented populations. Previously, I was Deputy Director of a White House program called the Presidential Innovation Fellows, coordinated a tech fellows program at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and fought human trafficking at the Department of Homeland Security. I love meeting new people, especially those who want to make the world a better place. I'm an avid yogi.
