· • Our charming little blue house offers a safe home stay experience and a true insight into the traditions of the Dominican country life. It is also an ideal place for relaxation, creativity and developing your artistic side.

The space

· • A small country home within 10 minutes walking distance to the beach and surf schools. The house includes a private bedroom with a full size bed, a shared bedroom with 2 bunk beds as well as a unique camping zone in the midle of papaya and banana groves. Our living room is furnished with a shared desk, small coffee table and comfortable rocking chairs to enjoy. We have an open air outdoor kitchen with an awesome papaya tree, internal and external bathrooms as well as a beautiful huge back/front yard. Across the road is a cow field with mango trees and behind the house is a papaya and plantain grove. Wifi access available. The property has 4 very friendly and playful dogs that are cared for by the family which owns the land. Feel free to pet them or feed them, as long as it’s not chocolate!

An ideal space for relaxation, creativity and developing your artistic craft whether it be writing, music, dance or anything else of that nature. Your hosts are two musicians, producers and dancers who are active in the local concert scene of the nearby resort town, so if you are curious about attending some live events or experiencing the nightlife in general, you will have safe and reliable guides to maximize your experience! Also worth mentioning is direct access to horseback riding, surfing and adventure buggy excursions as our house is located on the touring trail.

Guest access

· • Full access to kitchen, living room and bathroom at all times. Front and Backyard fully accessible with papaya trees that you are permitted to pick from. Parking is available for any size vehicle. Guests should bring their own towels. Laundry service can be requested for a fee of 5 dollars for one large machine washed load, otherwise it can be done by hand in a wash basin. Music is encouraged however to respect the locals we must lower the volume after 11pm.

Interaction with guests

· • We host a very open and friendly environment for those who choose to interact with us in our daily routine. We are very welcoming and inclusive in our activities and are more than happy to guide, consult and direct in any way we can. Preparing and sharing meals, company for trips to the beach, or a tour of the local restaurants and shops are all possible. If privacy and solitude is desired we can accommodate respectfully. If transport is needed for shopping or sightseeing purposes there is a motorcycle which can be driven by us to take you. Happy children and peaceful tame dogs run all throughout the front and backyard in the afternoons while chickens roam freely around the property. You may find yourself in front of a few curious children staring at you in their school uniforms amidst a variety of wagging tails and panting tongues.

Other things to note

· • Feel free to bring your instruments or painting supplies or any other creative materials as our household is an artistic environment which encourages these activities!

We stayed 11 days in the Hostel and our stay was just amazing! Andres and the others were so friendly and made us feel very welcome. Andres offered great tours and showed us secret spots of the island only locals know! Also the village was very nice and not touristic at all, so we got to know the real dominican life and very friendly locals. The beach is large and beautiful and not that crowded. We were so happy not to do the typical touristic resort holiday. So we really enjoyed our holiday and will definitly come back!! :)

For me, this was perfect. But please understand - This is not for everyone. It very simple, there will be poweroutage, there is noise from cows, roosters, dogs and whatever else there is around from 4am. But it's the perfect place to connect with yourself and do nothing for a while.

While Macao beach is not for the faint at heart (it's a tad bit rugged), if you're ready to open your heart you will get endless love and light in return from the community at Macao hostel. This will become your home, wether for one night or for two months. Staying here provided me the best experiences I've had in punta cana, and the best memories dancing with the neighborhood kids, playing soccer, finding coconuts off of the trees on the beach, cooking dinner for people at the hostel, eating breakfast together, and simply enjoying each other's company. You have everything you need here and I was lucky enough to meet with people from over 12 countries in 5 days. if you're thinking about bávaro, many of us agreed that Macao is the real Dominican Republic. I stayed in bávaro near the resorts for 4 days and don't recommend wasting your time. It's nothing but resorts shut in by walls and private beaches that are inaccesible. In addition, people will be more persistent then you might be comfortable with in an attempt to get your money for something. None of the tourist nonsense at Macao. Pure bliss, community, connection and sharing. The beach is beautiful, and the night life is accessible by motor taxi. If i do come back to Dominican Republic, i will definitely stay here again! Thank you mayella, jorge, molegrais, and Andres for sharing your home, adopted family, and space with me!

Rustic hostel a mile or so from the beach. A very authentic atmosphere on a dirt road between a couple small farms. Definitely a true Dominican experience! Andres is a great host and you will enjoy your stay!

This place was perfect for what we wanted. Andres is very chilled and super nice. The place is quite basic, but you go there for the atmosphere. You'll be living on a rural dirt road, about 10-12 minutes walking from the beach with cows as neighbours. In the morning we went to get fresh eggs at the neighbours. I don't usually like sleeping in a tent but I think it looked way better than the dorm. There was a lot more space in the tent and there was a nice breeze at night so we were not hot. It rained a few times and our's was fully waterproof. I hope that this place will remain special and that idiots won't start going there and ruining the charm of this beautiful place. Thanks again Andres!

I spent an amazing week at Macao Beach Hostel. Not easy to find, this place is surrounded by palm trees, cows and welcoming locals with big hearts and even bigger smiles on their faces. The accommodation is basic but offers all you need to stay alive. It brings you down to the important things you easily forget during your daily live. I enjoyed every minute of my stay and will definitely come back when I find the time! Thanks Andres for making this week into such a great experience!
