Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
The perfect rural getaway for 2-4 guests right on the Shropshire Way in an AONB. Light, spacious and carefully renovated, the Shippen has an oak & glass gable and south-facing decked veranda overlooking the stunning Linley Valley for heaven-sent views. A wood burner, central heating, designer décor, super-comfortable King-size bed, crisp white linen, soft white towels, extra blankets and a well-stocked kitchen ensure home comforts all year-round. Walker, cyclist, family and pet friendly.

The space
The Shippen is a detached, light, spacious, open-plan barn conversion with an oak and glass gable overlooking the fabulous, unspoilt Linley Valley - providing home comforts and a great base for outdoor pursuits all year round. It’s heaven for couples or families (there's a sofabed and travel cot if you've little ones in tow), and perfect in every season; snuggle up by the the log-burner in winter and barbecue in summer.

The property has been carefully renovated with exposed beams, oak joinery and flooring, a wood burning stove and central heating, and a stylish, modern interior. There is a super-comfortable king size bed, double sofa bed, well-stocked, contemporary fitted kitchen with breakfast bar, a dining table with benches and high chair, a wet room that takes a wheelchair with large basin, WC and under floor heating.

The living area has a corner sofa, smart T.V with FreeSat, Netflix and a PlayStation 3, Bose sound system, books and board games, extra blankets and lots of other extras to make sure you have a lovely, comfortable stay.

Stroll the cobbled streets of Bishop’s Castle and Shrewsbury, enjoy a local pint by the river, hike to the top of the Long Mynd. Then back to board games by the fire, bright starry skies, and owls that hoot you to sleep.

Guest access
There is a private, flat flagstone entrance and guest parking on a private drive for up to two cars directly outside The Shippen.

The detached property is surrounded by the most beautiful Shropshire landscape. With miles and miles of beautiful countryside and woodland with stunning views and star-filled night skies, and a brook for paddling at the bottom of the valley, the immediate area is absolutely stunning.

Steeped in peace and quiet, the Shippen is located within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with Sites of Special Scientific Interest very close by. It’s ideal for walkers, cyclists, nature lovers and kite flyers or those seeking deep peace and quiet. The Shropshire Way runs alongside the main house. The Stiperstones and the Long Mynd are just a few minutes’ drive away.

There are lots of pretty villages and market towns, castles, woodland and hills to explore. The area is great for bird watching, romantic walks or more challenging hill walking, cycling, riding, golfing, hang gliding, good food, local music, book and arts festivals, houses and gardens.

Other things to note
Domestic oil, electricity, water, logs for the wood burner and fresh linen for two people (bed linen, towels and tea towels) is included in the standard price. There is an extra charge of £30.00 to cover additional bed linen and towels for more than two people. Please indicate the number of beds required upon booking.

Clean, house trained, well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement only, please contact us to discuss. There is no extra charge for pets.

A cleaning service is not provided but we are happy to provide weekly fresh bed linen and towels.

Storage for bikes, camping or walking equipment in our barn can be arranged. Sainsbury's will deliver. There is a lovely riverside pub in Ratlinghope called The Bridges serving locally brewed ale just a couple of miles away. We recommend The Coach House in Norbury for great food.

Location

Bishop's Castle, England, United Kingdom

The location is very rural, so a car and following the driving directions to the property from the owners is essential. Come prepared with food essentials for self-catering, have a pint nearby at The Bridges Inn, dine at The Coach House in Norbury or visit the market towns of Shrewsbury, Church Stretton or Bishop's Castle with their attractive streets, cafes, museums, breweries and arts and antiques. .... all an easy drive away... or shop at the large, well-stocked wholefood store just 10 minutes drive away.

The county town of Shrewsbury on the banks of the River Severn is just a 25-minute drive away; much loved for its fine buildings, cobbled streets, museums, restaurants, and fantastic independent and high-street shops.
Ludlow, famed for its castle, beautiful architecture, food fair, Michelin starred restaurants and other gastronomic delights is a 40 minute drive away, and the drive passes medieval Stokesay Castle.

A little further afield are the famous gardens at Powys Castle and The Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site, and for book-lovers Hay-on-Wye famed for its antique and book shops is about an hour's drive away and hosts a great literary festival every year.

Hello! I'm very happy to be sharing what we feel is a very special space in the Shropshire Hills with guests coming from far and wide. We are a pretty open and creative family who enjoy travel, art, organic food and culture. We do our very best to keep The Shippen clean and lovely for people coming to stay, and everyone who comes has been very careful to look after it for us during their stay. It's a pretty special place to be and Shropshire is still a bit of a 'secret', and so completely unspoilt with a feeling of ancient stillness about it. We hope you will come and discover this outstandingly beautiful area for yourself! Warmly, Jeannie

The detached barn is a short distance from the house, and is completely independent from it and not overlooked. We aim to give guests complete privacy whilst also being available to answer any questions, so please do ask if there's anything you need, we're happy to help where we can. We've even been known to pick guests up from the local pub if we're around!
