The space

The guest rooms are situated in an historic two-story early 20th century family home surrounded by 16 acres. The house is located on the High Landing ridge crest. From the walking paths through the property there are views east across the Moshannon Creek Valley to Moshannon State Forest and views from the yard to the western and southern horizon, more than fifteen miles away. Beautiful sunsets!
The “Blue Room” bedroom has windows with an eastern forested view and an open, southern view. It is a large room with an antique double bed.
There is a closet and hangers. This room shares a bathroom with “Bee’s Room”. The bathroom is mid-50’s motif and has a shower, toilet, sink and tub.

Guest access

Guests may socialize in the living room or foyer, and homemade scones with yogurt are available at no charge for breakfast in the oval dining room.

Interaction with guests

Your host resides in the house and will be available to answer questions and provide a light breakfast.

The neighbourhood

Lanse is a quiet residential community and Winburne is an historic coal mining community. Coal mining has ceased in the area and very little sign of this founding industry is evident.

Getting around

Paved parking is a short walk from the house. Exit 133 off I-80 at Kylertown, PA, is three miles away. An easy, wooded 1/2 mile walking loop winds through the property and the quiet street offers a pleasant walk through Lanse.
A beautiful railtrail (the old New York Central RR) leads from Black Bear, just beyond Winburne, approximately 25 miles to Snowshoe, PA, highlighted by a 100’ high viaduct and tunnel. The railtrail runs parallel to Moshannon Creek with wonderful views of the Creek and surrounding forest. (Bicycles should have fat tires.) A canoe race on Moshannon Creek takes place each spring.
We are 10 miles from Black Moshannon State Park which has many beautiful picnic, swimming (in the lake) and exploring places. You can camp, or rent canoes etc.
We are not near any public transportation.

Other things to note

There is a very short woodland path from the driveway to the front door. It will be well lit at night should you arrive after dark. Check in time is 4pm and check out is 11 am. We are only 35 miles from Penn State University and only 3 miles from I-80 between Chicago, Illinois and New York !!

House Rules

We do not allow pets indoors, however if you have a well behaved pet who would like to stay in our dog house outside he is welcome to. This is a non-smoking property, inside and out.
