Shanta Ghar-peace home is a rustic natural eco-home in beautiful Madi village behind the Chitwan National Park.A small heaven discovered by Norwegian hippie Mr. Lasse Hanestard who started with his beloved local friend Ramakanta. It is Sal wood home designed by local carpenters in old Nepali traditional way where everything is pure eco: dry red mud floor with Hey carpets & beautiful collection of handicraft. The space
Welcome to Shanta Ghar, which translated from Nepali means “Peace Home”. Located in the heart of Chitwan National Park in Madi Valley, Shanta Ghar Resort is a tranquil haven away from the tourist hustle and bustle and a perfect location from which to explore the colourful and intriguing Chitwan area. Surrounded by jungle rich in wildlife, our guests are able to experience nature while enjoying authentic Nepali family life.

Shanta Ghar has an inviting treehouse structure that provides beautiful 360-degree views of rice paddies, sunsets, the jungle and wildlife. Local carpenters constructed Shanta Ghar by hand in the traditional Nepali way, utilizing the famous Sal wood.

Hari, owner and operator of Shanta Ghar, makes it his mission to ensure that his guests are happy, comfortable and well taken care of. Guests are invited to join Hari and his family for traditional Nepali meals, and Hari is happy to accommodate a variety of requests from his guests.

Shanta Ghar strives to create a relaxing environment; however, the adventure of the jungle is just off our doorstep. We offer jungle treks and jungle camps and can teach you how to cook traditional Nepali food. Of course, you can also just relax and unplug from the craziness of life by enjoying our garden and watching the array of wildlife that visits our property from sunrise to sunset.

There are many options for your stay at Shanta Ghar. It is possible to rent a room or even the entire facility.

The treehouse structure has one common sitting room and 6 bedrooms: two special room with a connected toilet, and four double rooms with a shared toilet and warm shower. All rooms have French doors with balconies and an outdoor sitting area. In the Stonehouse, we have two round rooms with private bathrooms.

Altogether Shanta Ghar Resort can accommodate anywhere from 16-24 people.

Breakfast is included in the room price, but all other meals can be ordered for reasonable prices. Shanta Ghar serves traditional home cooked Nepali vegetarian food. All of our ingredients are organic and are grown in our garden or are locally sourced. On special occasions, we can provide local organic meat for you to taste. Our milk and butter are from our own buffalo.

Will I See Wildlife?

I am an experienced guide and have taken many tourists through the Himalayas. Now I am back living and guiding in the area where I grew up. Although I cannot 100% guarantee you will see wildlife I will do my very best to take you places where the animals roam. These are wild animals so we can never predict exactly where they will be but we can try!
Here are some of the animals you may see
Deer
Boar
Bear
Peacock
Black pigs
Rhino
Wild Cats
Tigers "If lucky while jungle walk"
Parrots and many other birds

Other Useful Tips

VISA- Depending on which country you reside in a visa will more than likely be required. You can either obtain this before you travel or alternatively a visa on arrival is also possible. The process can be slow at the airport. If you are obtaining the visa on arrival you will be required to pay for it in USD(other currencies are also accepted). There are two machines in the visa on arrival hall that will scan your passport and take your photo. You can fill in the forms here electronically. The machine then prints you a ticket to take to the desk where they can process your visa. This is the quickest way to do it.

Where you’ll be

Narayani, Central Region, Nepal

As a family we are very proud of where we live. We wanted to share our beautiful village with tourists.
When I started to build Shanta Ghar all of the local workers and my friends thought I was crazy and that nobody would come. Now, they are starting to see the tourists who love to experience life with a real Nepali family and to live among nature and wildlife. Finally, my dream is coming true.
