About this listing

Our Traditional handmade Yurt is set in our private garden furnished with comfortable beds and a cozy wood burning stove. Surrounded by our chickens, herbs and vegetables, and blue sea with white sand beaches. A true getaway!

The space

This 6m diameter handcrafted Mongolian Yurt is off-grid and the only glamping style accommodation on the Island. We have 1 double futon and 2 single futons sleeping 4 in total. All the beds fold up easily for ample seating through the day. A central wood burning stove will ensure a cozy stay even if the weather takes a turn. A dinner table, chairs and 2 traditional Mongolian chests complete the furniture.

Guest access

Guests will have access to all crockery, cutlery, pots/pans and glasses. A small gas stove is available to supplement the large BBQ grill for cooking outside. We provide a small supply of logs for the wood burning stove. Separate to the Yurt is a newly refurbished toilet and shower facility and a large outdoor stainless steel sink unit for washing up. All linen, bedding and towels are provided. Guests have access to the whole garden and any eggs our small flock of chickens can provide.

Interaction with guests

We live in the adjacent house and both work in our shop, the only one on the Island also next door. We are available to our guests all day and spend some time tending the garden and seeing to the chickens.

Hi Folks,

We are sure you will have a wonderful, relaxing time staying with us but to ensure continued enjoyment for you and future guests we have a few important rules to adhere to.

We have some chickens that at times freely roam the garden and as such we do not allow dogs either in the yurt or in the garden.

No smoking in the Yurt please

You are welcome to invite guests to enjoy the yurt and garden at any time however we ask that local law is respected and that noise is kept to a minimum after 10p.m.

Your visitors may stay in the yurt but no more than 4 people may sleep overnight for insurance purposes.

Please remember that a Yurt despite its inherent strength and durability is ultimately a tent of sorts and as such during periods of exceptional weather (high winds in particular) it will occasionally be necessary to take the yurt down for safety purposes. In the event that we are unable to honour your booking due to extreme weather conditions or other reasons outwith our control we will endeavour to find you alternative accommodation or provide you with a full refund.

Thank you

What a fantastic place! A lovely yurt on an equally lovely island with graciuous hosts. What more can one want?

We just had the most perfect weekend in Gigha. The yurt was fab and the kids thought it was an amazing adventure. It was a wild noisy night, which didn't make for the best night's sleep, but the yurt was comfortable, cosy and warm with the wood burning fire. Joe was a wonderful and generous host supplying linen and towels, plenty of wood for the fire, freshly laid eggs, complimentary drinks (amazing milk from the island) and great tips for how to spend our days. He directed us to the most beautiful beach on our second day which we had all to ourselves. It was idyllic. We had two great meals on the island at The Boathouse and the Gigha hotel. I can't recommend the yurt and the island too highly.

It was our first time staying in a yurt, which was a cool experience! The yurt itself was shipped over from Mongolia, so very authentic. Cosy inside when the fire was going. Comfortable bedding. Nice to lie and listen to the sounds of the sea, the wind, and the fire crackle inside. Unfortunately when we stayed, there were high winds so the sounds of things flapping around overpowered those sounds most of the time but would be nice to go back when the weather is calmer. Great location, right behind a shop, only a few mins walk to a wonderful restaurant (The Boathouse) and a few mins to the hotel/bar and craft shop. I notice upstairs in the craft shop did massage treatments, reiki, etc so you could have a very relaxing few days on the island. Loved Gigha and will definitely return! Couldn't believe how white the sand was!

A fab experience, the Yurt was warm, comfortable and well equipped. Gigha was great for safe family cycling, off road adventures and the beaches were so pretty even in chilly April.

We had a wonderful time staying in the Yurt; it is sturdy, comfortable and has everything you'll need. Joe, Hannah and Martha are excellent hosts and made sure that we were well looked after. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they were more than happy to give pointers on how to make the most of the Gigha. The island itself is beautiful. Bike is a great way to get around and see things, so that's well worth doing. I'd love to stay in the yurt again. Just remember to duck as you're going through the door.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the yurt. Hannah and Joe were great hosts, the yurt was comfortable and cosy and set within a lovely garden space, perfect for BBQs. The island of Gigha is gorgeous and we're looking forward to returning.
