About this listing
'Rafiki' means friend and we want to welcome you in our home as friends.
Our self catering safari house is situated in the nature conservancy Marloth Park that borders the famous Kruger National Park. We are close to the river (2mins walk) and close to Kruger entrance gate (12 mins). Surrounded by trees, our house and garden are a haven of peace, only to be disturbed by animals and birds.
If you like privacy and animals close by, our home is ideal.
Now everywhere AC. Wifi possible on demand.
Our house has 4 bedrooms and three bathrooms (all with AC; all rooms also have ceiling fans), a living room downstairs (with AC) and a video lounge upstairs, a dining space and a fully equipped kitchen. In South Africa, people live outside : we have two large covered terraces, a splash pool, a rock pool, a boma (=BBQ place) and best of all a very large garden with impressive large trees. This and the location is what makes our place unique. It also is a birds’ paradise.
Animals roam freely within the park (and occasionnally in and out from Kruger). Safari in your garden and at your doorstep : zebra, kudu, gnoe, baboons and monkeys, and so much more. Dangerous animals (elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, …) can be seen at Crocodile River at 2mins walk from the house. One can hear the lion roar, the hippo snort and the elephants trumpet. The sounds are thrilling for nature lovers.
Interaction with guests
The owners do not live there but will be happy to help you, give advice or solve problems. Daily cleaning service can be arranged at less than 10 euro per day. Guests pay directly to the cleaner.
Wifi can be arranged. The guest pays the owner a prepaid sum according to how much he wants to use and that will be available. There also is wifi in the restaurants in the vicinity.
Next to our exceptional garden, our second trump card is that the closest entrance gate to Kruger National park is only 12 mins drive away while from some other houses in Marloth Park, it might take half an hour. In just a few hours, you might be lucky enough to see the Big Five!
Swaziland, Mozambique, Panorama Route ... can be the purpose of a daytrip. For transport to and from our house, we can advise you.
Other things to note
Prices are way lower than what one pays for Kruger National Park accommodation where much less comfort is offered and where fences prevent animals from coming to the camp.
We live in a wildlife sanctuary where animals roam freely. Our garden has no fences. Littering is utterly prohibited (no cigarette buts, no beer caps.)
Strict no smoking policy in the house.
Never forget that the animals coming to the garden are wild animals. Treat them as such. They are scared away by sudden movements are sudden noises. For the night animals, flash lights an talking presents no problem.
I am a university Professor who loves the bush. When being there my key words are : inspiration, creation, dedication, fulfilment as the quiet and relaxing environment of our house and garden relieve me of my joint pains and make me forget the little worries of daily life.
