Description

The space

Túngata 8 was originally built in 1915 by a local businessman. It's part of the very historic "Grjótaþorp" in downtown Reykjavik. Just around the corner was the original settlement of the area dating back to 871 AD.

Guest access

The listing includes your own private suite in the house (Number 3), with two beds (90cm each). We can configure it to be either combined (180cm) or separated. There is a comfortable common room with TV and a fully stocked kitchen. There's a bathroom on each floor as well as 4 showers in the house.

Interaction with guests

We're happy to offer after-hours check-in using a key-access code to the house. This means your late night flight is fine, but do note checkout is at 11 AM and Checkin is after 2 PM.

The neighbourhood

There are lot's of coffee shops, bars and restaurants in the downtown area. The House is minutes from the harbor, major shopping streets and other attractions of downtown. If you're looking to take a day-tour, there are of pickup locations for bus tours right around the corner.

Getting around

Walking is your best bet, as we're right around the corner from most of downtown has to offer. Across the street there is a paid parking lot. It's free overnight, but costs about 1,000 Kr. per day for parking. The tourists buses all pick up from local hotels, the closest one is Hotel Reykjavik Center, which is only two doors down.

House Rules
No smoking
Not suitable for pets
No parties or events
May not be safe or suitable for infants (Under 2 years)
Check in is anytime after 2PM

Please help us keep the house in it's pristine condition. There is no smoking or pets allowed. Check-in is after 2PM and checkout before 11AM. There's a PIN code on the door for easy arrival. Please help keep noise to a minimum.

Showers and bathrooms are shared with other guests, so please help us keep them clean between use by removing any hairs or other things you wouldn't want to see upon entry to the shower.

Common areas of the house, such as Kitchen and Dining Room are not to be used after 10PM or before 6AM unless with absolute silence. Strictly no cooking or talking in common areas during those hours as it makes too much noise for sleeping guests.

When you are done using the kitchen, please leave no dishes or food in the sink, on counters, on the stove, or in any common area. Either wash your dishes or put them in the dishwasher. The kitchen should look as though you were never there. Kitchen hours are 6am to 10pm: you may quietly retrieve snacks outside of these hours but no meal preparation outside of these hours. No heavy/greasy cooking in the kitchen. Please, if you spill things on the stovetop, clean it up. Do not leave spills to bake onto the stovetop, which makes them hard or impossible to clean off.

Other House Rules:
* Kindly remove your shoes upon entering the house.
* Please do not drag your luggage up the stairs, as this will damage the carpet.
* Absolutely no smoking in the house
* Due to danger of fire, no candles, space heaters or open flames may be used in the house.

The house was very lovely and beautifully furnished with an eye for the detail. Everything needed was provided including things that were free of use, like shampoo, tea or groceries. I stayed at Runars place for 8 days (in Room 3), very bright and spacious and cosy at the same time! Everything was very neat and clean (except the showers for the last 2 days, but that dependent on some of the other guests, not on the staff. I didn’t get to meet Runar personally, but one of his assistants: Fanney, who was always very friendly and very helpful. I could contact Runar also any time with my concerns, and he managed it to answer me always within a very short amount of time. Very relieable and uncomplicated. The location of the house is perfect. Downtown, very nice neighborhood, good walking distance to many nice places. The only downside is that the old building is not very good soundproofed, so you could literally hear every sound of the neighbors (walking, snorring, locking and unlocking there doors) and traffic on the street, so maybe not perfect for people with a light sleep. All in all it was a very pleasent stay, the place is very personal and I got to meet new people in the house. I would totally recommend this wonderful place and would always stay there again. Thank you Runar and Fanney!

The place was beautiful and it was in a good location, but the upstairs shower was broken and the noise from the other guests was a bit much. Not everyone was loud but a group of girls killed the stay for me.

Great location, comfortable, has everything you need, and an all-around awesome place to stay! Hosts did a good job communicating and arranging for our stay. Only wish is that we had more time to spend in Iceland!
