86 acres on Bear Creek, private guesthouse w/hot tub, DISH TV/HBO/SHO, Tempurpedic top bed, ORGANIC breakfast fixin's in a well appointed kitchen. Dog friendly, eco-friendly, Endless POOL+ prof. massage/spa treatments available. Vacation destination.

The space

Las Palomas Guesthouse is a peaceful, private guesthouse, built for our family and friends, now shared with new friends as our guests. We are eco-friendly (solar panels feed the grid). We are also dog friendly, if their owners are responsible and well behaved. Make yourselves right at home! Mi casita es tu casita!
Blue sky in the day, dark sky at night with millions of stars (sitting the the hot tub is a good place to spot meteor showers).
The kitchen is a full, cook's kitchen. We provide ORGANIC breakfast foods when we can, including eggs, milk, bread, cereal, yogurt, oatmeal, coffee, teas galore, butter, jam, mustard, mayonnaise, catsup, oil, vinegar, sugar, and more spices than you could shake a spatula at. That bit of baking soda and few tablespoons of flour are there too, most likely.
There is an outside table for meals and a barbecue (we supply charcoal briquettes to start you off). You will find fire starting fluid, matches, grill utensils, aluminum foil, cling wrap, ice trays, tissues, kitchen towel, paper and cloth napkins. Bring on the steaks! Barbecue using some mesquite sticks for the real West flavor.
Supermarkets are in Silver City, 25 or so miles away, or even farther afield. We are a frontier community and we learn to keep our pantries stocked and our gas tanks full.

Guest access

Our property comprises 86+ acres and is part of a working ranch of over 2,000 acres. You can walk along Bear Creek on our property. And just up the road you have the Gila Wilderness - 3.5 million acres of true wilderness.
We have an Endless Pool that we allow guests to use, at times, at our discretion, and at your own risk. More below.

Interaction with guests

We live and work at home, next door, and are usually available for tips, ideas and general assistance. We will always have a back up helper if we are unavailable. We are happy to help, we are also happy to leave you alone to discover the peace and beauty at Las Palomas.
Our two Golden Retrievers are very friendly. Too friendly?

Other things to note

Don't forget a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses! Also, binoculars are useful for birding. Local calls are free. We do not get cell service at the guesthouse, but we do at the top of the driveway.
Silver City with full shopping facilities is 25 miles away (a stress-free drive) and there are stores, a micro-brewery, restaurants and a movie theater. Tourist sites include City of Rocks, the Catwalk, the Gila Cliff Dwellings and many more. This is the real West, if you have seen the movie Stagecoach (John Wayne and Andy Devine) leaving Silver City...

Enjoy our many amenities, our extra touches, the amazing natural beauty, and be respectful of the people, place and critters. We live on a working ranch with cattle and horses... they always have right of way when you are walking or driving and your safety is your responsibility. Just ask us before you go hiking for safety tips (we have walking sticks and walkie-talkies as well). Rule of thumb, if you find a gate closed, close it after you go through. If you find it open, leave it open.
In general, we are pretty laid-back and mellow and you can do your thing unperturbed. There are some things that could go without saying, but they won't, so here goes.
Never leave children unattended, No matter the age.
Never leave an outside door open - we live adjacent to the Gila wilderness, home to a wide variety of critters, including ones that bite and have venom. If you go out for a while, please shut the windows because of sudden wind gusts and possible breakage. (Yes, it has happened.)
PETS: We may allow well-behaved dogs if your dog likes other dogs (we have two), likes other people, won't bother cows and horses on this open ranch, is up to date with vaccinations (Kennel Cough and we recommend snake vaccine in warm weather), is NEVER left alone in the house, and has an owner who takes full responsibility for ANY damage to person or property. We have furniture cover sheets if you like to cuddle your dog on the couch or bed. Just ask.
No outside FIRES without permission (ask, fire danger is seasonal).
No smoking inside. Smoking outside by the chiminea is allowed.
We have an Endless Pool that we allow guests to use, at times, at our discretion, and at your own risk. No diving, no running, no glass, no pee-pee, no dunking, no drowning, no lifeguard... the usual pool rules apply here too. Got sunscreen?
The hot tub has a few fussy but easy rules about the buttons and lid. Please call us for help if you are on your own and can't manage the lid. Please use the towels and guest robes, if you like, that are provided for the hot tub. Other towels are for the shower/tub. Please close the hot tub immediately after use.
More about that hot tub… take the rocks off, undo the carabiner to carabiners attachments for the ropes on the sides closest to the log/step. Fold the top away from the creek and maneuver it off to the side by the juniper trees. This is easiest as a two person job, we would be happy to assist.
The controls: NEVER TOUCH HOT TUB CONTROL BUTTONS IN SEQUENCE. ONLY ONE BUTTON WITHIN 10 SECONDS OF A SECOND BUTTON. Otherwise the complicated and grumpy computer will reset to 80 degrees and the tub won’t be any fun at all.
Use the jets button, on its own, to change the jets.
Wait again at least 10 seconds to use the temp button, pause and press again to raise or lower the temperature setting, and…
Use the lights button, if you dare, to cycle through pretty lights that will diminish the star views and call in the moths for a swim-swim.
Close the lid when not in use to save the heat loss and discourage the insects that want a drink. Put the rocks and ropes back if it is windy and when you are finished using the tub. We appreciate that.

Amazing place, near Gila National Forest. Very clean and welcoming, booked hours before arrival and was greeted upon parking. House is located above the creek and has an epic view of the lands around it. House was spacious and cozy, with everything one would need for a chill night. Some call outs for ppl considering booking. The place is very remote, about 20 minutes from gas or snacks (i loved how remote it was). The city is even further away so bring supplies (Not the kinda place you're gonna wanna come and go from). The driveway was about 15 minutes of dirt road, and up and down but doable for sedans. Also, no AC but the night was cold, so I had the windows open (and it was perfect). Overall, amazing place that I would like to do again for at least 2 nights

This is a wonderful place. The Casita was beautiful and in excellent condition. It is a little remote but it was wonderful experiencing New Mexico and the Silver City / Gila area.

The setting and casita were much more beautiful than we were expecting. Check in was very efficient and helpful, and little touches made a difference, like a full hummingbird feeder, natural history books, and maps for hiking on the property. The porch and hot tub were wonderful. Don't miss this one.

The stay was much better than expected. It was very clean and had a great view. She even had breakfast food for us waiting in the fridge, very nice touch. Would definitely recommend to anyone staying in the area.

Sandra's place is wonderful. We hope to stay there again sometime. It was very CLEAN which is a big deal to me. It was so relaxing for me just hanging out on the patio and my husband enjoyed climbing the mountain. Loved it!

If you are looking for a great get away, this is the place. The view is beautiful, the surroundings tranquil. It is a little off the beaten path but that is what makes it a wonder place to unwind and reconnect with yourself, your spouse, whatever. Close enough to some beautiful sights, but far enough away to be very private.
