About this listing
In the heart of the East Village
Spacious, charming, quiet, sunny, loft-like, studio apartment on the 3rd floor in a small 4-storey, family-owned and occupied brownstone in a convenient centrally located area of the East Village. The studio has wood floors, 11-foot ceilings, original details, exposed brick, large windows, full kitchen, loft bed, and a fold out sofabed, so it can sleep up to 4 people.
The bathroom is very small (the ceiling is only 6'3" high), but adorable with a shower, but no tub. If you're taller than 6 feet it will feel a bit cramped. Tall people have lived in the apartment for years at a time and they've been fine, but it's not for everyone.
You will have your own studio apartment. We have a lovely terrace out back. If we're having a party or BBQ when it's warm out, you're welcome to join!
Interaction with guests
The rest of the building is occupied by family - my retired parents below and my sister, brother-in-law, and niece and nephew above. I live right next door to the studio, so I'm able to easily check guests in any time of the day or night and I'm available to answer questions or help just about all of the time.
We are available to assist you with anything you need to make your stay enjoyable.
The apartment is located on the most quiet block of St. Marks Place, a main thoroughfare in the center of the East Village. Since it's in the back of the building, it's nice and quiet even though you're right in the middle of the action. It is blocks away from Tompkins Sq Park, Union Sq, and the East River park. There are tons of restaurants, supermarkets, corner groceries (most of which are open 24 hours/7 days), and shops in the area. It's a wonderful, convenient location in a vibrant, lively neighborhood.
You can easily walk to the LES, SoHo, and the West Village in about 10-20 minutes. Williamsburg is about 20-30 minutes away by subway. Most tourist attractions are no more than 30-40 minutes away by taxi, subway, or bus.
The building is something of an East Village icon, which was featured in the Larry Clark film KIDS. The owners have occupied the building since 1975 and are a wonderful resource for East Village history.
The apartment is within blocks of the 4/5/6 N/R/Q F/M and L subway lines, and multiple bus routes,
The building is smoke and pet free. The use of illegal drugs is prohibited. We do not permit non-registered guests in the building.
