Other things to note

Clydesdale Lake is a hidden gem in the North Kawarthas. The spectacular unobstructed views from the cottage and the setting of the cottage provides you with a feeling of perfect happiness. Grab a coffee and watch the unbelievable views from the living room or dock. 10 minutes from the Town of Apsley and 2 hours from Toronto, this small quiet lake is ideal for getting away and recharging batteries. Clydesdale Lake has an average depth of 1.8m with its deepest point being 4m. There is excellent swimming off the dock and fishing in its clean waters and the water is always calm. Our cottage has 60 feet of waterfront with western exposure giving sunshine for most of the day. Whether you’re swimming, relaxing on the dock, sitting in front of the house, your whole family will be together on the lake level waterfront. There are no steps between the cottage and the water, only a few feet of grass, so perfect for older and younger guests. You really can't get any closer to the water if you tried.

Apsley is only 10 minutes away and has all the essentials: Foodland, Liquor Store, Library, Drug Store, Convenience Store, Royal Bank, Home Hardware and many upscale Cottage gift shops. Coe Hill is the other town near by which has great dining at the Hideaway Primitive Grill and a great Antique shop, Trashy Treasures.

The cottage and surround is thoroughly cleaned and maintained prior to guests arriving. Our expectation is that guests leave the cottage and surround as they found it.

This is NOT a party cottage. It is expected that you will look after the cottage and surround and be considerate to our neighbours so respect for the environment and keeping noise levels down is important.

Food/ drink should never be left outside as it will attract wild animals. Garbage must be stored indoors and taken with you when you leave.

You are expected to provide your own towels and bed linens. You will be provided with a starter quantity of garbage bags, toilet roll, paper towel etc but will then be required to provide your own.

Lake water which comes out of our taps is not suitable for drinking so you will need to bring your own water.

We are unable to accommodate any pets.

A complete list of house rules is available in the cottage

On Fridays and Saturdays the minimum stay is 3 nights.

The best thing about Sonia's cottage is the location - the lake is beautiful, the sunsets mesmerizing and the stars can been seen so clearly. If you need to reconnect with nature but don't want to go backwoods camping this is the spot. We were visited by loons, ducks, frogs, chipmunks, squirrels and one rather surprised garter snake. Sonia was a great host, everything went smoothly.

This is a very well maintained cottage on a beautiful, quiet lake in the woods, but only 10 minutes from the town which has pretty much anything you need. Well equipped with appliances and utensils and pretty much everything you may need for cooking. Good water pressure and comfortable beds. We will return... :)

The cottage and surrounding land was lovely. Possibly the most comfortable cottage beds I've ever slept in too. There was plenty of space to hang out inside with kids on a rainy day [with an excellent family friendly VHS movie collection!] and the kitchen is well kitted out with a massive full sized fridge. I was most impressed with how immaculately clean the cottage was when we arrived. With all of this, I was very happy with the cottage. The neighbours were friendly and the lake itself is pretty quiet and peaceful. However, my only complaint really is the actual lake water and shoreline. This is not really a clear water lake. As it is generally quite shallow, and the bottom is mud, there is a lot of algae and plants. The kids were unable to simply walk into the water as the listing originally described as the shore was a mix of slippery rocks and muddy, plant filled bottom. Not a deal breaker itself except off the dock isn't great for the little ones who can't swim yet and being no more than a meter deep it's difficult for adults to tread water and the muddy bottom was uncomfortable for me and my crew to stand in. Bottom line, if you're not too fussed about the lake or spending much time in the water then you'll find this a lovely place to stay [gorgeous sunsets!] and Sonia an excellent host who will respond quickly to all queries. If however, you are looking for a shoreline for small children to simply walk in and splash around and play in shallow waters this may not be your ideas spot.
