About this listing

A large Victorian home set in fantastic mature gardens, Parkfield House (as it's now called) is the perfect base for a visit to Topsham

The space

Good sized double bedroom with en-suite toilet and shower. The house is a very friendly home that was built to be enjoyed by lots of people. We currently have mum Pippa, daughter Charly and her young daughter, husband Charlie and lodging ecologist Ed. Your room is set slighly off from the rest and very private. You will have your own use of the family drawing room and shared use of the other communal spaces - there's plenty of space for privacy if that's what you are after. The garden is very quiet and peaceful. There is plenty of space for parking - a rarity in Topsham. Breakfast is self-serve cereal, toast, jams, fruit, tea and coffee.

Guest access

Big family kitchen (and own prep kitchen and fridge), drawing room with piano, TV, toys and games; extensive gardens, pond, greenhouse, vegetable patches and chickens (very friendly), trampoline and croquet sets; a sunny grape-vine covered conservatory, gazebo and a large off-street driveway.

Interaction with guests

We will really enjoy having you as our guests and will do everything we can to help. We've got all sorts of maps, books and local knowledge; we know the local restaurants and pubs (beer) particularly well. We may well able to lend you bikes to explore the village or tell you where to hire from. You might even be able to pursued Charlie to take you fishing in our boat - he'll definitely lend you a couple of crab lines.

Other things to note

Breakfast is self serve cereal, toast, jams, fruit, tea and coffee. Tennis courts and Topsham's outdoor pool just round the corner; we've got plenty of rackets and balls - please bring your own trunks.

Lovely house, very friendly and welcoming family. Comfortable room. Fantastic location especially for bird watching and exploring the estuary by train. Breakfast was included and good including eggs from their chickens. Loved it. Would go back.

Thank you so much Pippa, Charly and Charlie for having us! We had such an amazing time staying with you and you made us feel so welcome. Your house and gardens are stunning and Topsham is such a beautiful area to live, we enjoyed exploring around. The breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed all the chat. Thanks again and we hope to see you again soon! :)

Charly and Charlie made us feel quite at home in their beautiful house. The whole family were extremely welcoming in a friendly and relaxed way. They gave us the run of their kitchen and garden; we felt more like visiting family than paying guests. The bedrooms were calm and comfortable, the kitchen homely. I had scrambled egg made specially for me, with the egg collected from the hen as I watched. After breakfast, we played music in the conservatory, and their little girl joined in happily. It was a wonderful experience and I thoroughly recommend them.

We received a warm, relaxed welcome by the entire family and immediately felt at home. Charlie and her husband gave great recommendations about where to eat, what to visit and so did their lovely daughter Grace ''Pig and Pallet!'' The house and area matched the description perfectly. The Old Vicarage is full of character and our private en suite was wonderfully comfortable. We would recommend a visit and will definitely stay again if we are in the area.

We spent one night in Topsham recently to attend a family funeral. Charly, Charlie and Pippa all made us feel very welcome. The room was comfortable and clean, and having the en-suite shower room was very nice. We were given a nice breakfast of muesli, toast and coffee/tea, and we had plenty of space to work with our laptops during the morning before the funeral. The location is very convenient for the centre of Topsham and having parking is great. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a friendly and laid back local family to stay with in Topsham.
