Historic WW2 Lookout with exceptional cliff top views, now our quirky but totally unique home which is available when we are away. It is set in secluded woodland with private parking. It’s 300m from the beach plus 10 min walk into town along the coast path. There is a terrace with BBQ and front garden with direct access to the clifftop steps to the beach. It is small but it has 4 linked rooms that sleep 4 with a kitchen, shower room and ironing board.

The space
The original building was erected in 1942 as a very solid World War II Lookout and listening post. It was modified for use by the coastguard after the war and it is this flat roofed structure that remains relatively unchanged to this day: even the concrete fence posts are still in place!
The main room has stunning panoramic sea views on 3 sides through the original slanted WW2 bronze windows and from here there is a door on to the terrace. As there is no separate sitting room this main room contains a single bed which can be used as a seat when not in use. There is also a dining table with 5 stools, 2 high chairs at the windows and one armchair. The kitchen leads off the main room and has a small oven, microwave oven, halogen hobs, a fridge freezer, a dishwasher, a copper water filter, a kettle and a toaster. From the kitchen stairs leads down to a linking room containing a single bed which connects to the main bedroom which has twin beds that can be converted to a double. The shower room is "wet room" style and access is off the link room. It has an electric shower, WC and heated towel rail. There is a TV, new electric radiators and free unlimited high speed Wifi.

There is direct access through the front garden onto the coastal path with steps close by leading down to the sandy beach just minutes away. At the back of the property there is a woodland footpath which leads to The Lighthouse and The Royal Cromer Golf Course. It is a mere 5-10 minute walk into the centre of town along the promenade.
Cromer is a quintessential British seaside holiday town which boasted many famous visitors in its Victorian heyday when people travelled by train to enjoy the coastal scenery and take restorative dips in the sea whilst breathing in its famously clean air. Many of the historic buildings remain and it has a pier with an active lifeboat station and the Pavilion Theatre. The beautifully renovated sea front has been brought right up to date with the addition of the Glide Surf School & Cedar House Surf Shop and the North Norfolk Lifesaving Club. It is a great place to learn to surf or try stand up paddle boarding ( SUP ) in flatter conditions plus you can watch the more experienced surfers surf the big North Sea swells all year round.

Guest access
Guests have exclusive access to the whole property except the utility room and our private bathroom unless specifically arranged. There is also a caravan disguised by a camo net and some outside sheds at the back of the property that are private spaces.

Other things to note

In short The Lookout is a wonderful beach front retreat with a sense of history, breathtaking views of the coast, fresh air, delicious local seafood, dark skies, birdsong where you can listen to the sound of the sea yet you have all the benefits of being part of a unique and historic English coastal town.

I have built a career around creating beautiful things from natural materials with respect for both the environment and the people who inhabit that environment. My husbands home is in Bali and I have a desk in London but the Lookout at Cromer is our home in England. I am probably best known as the creator of "POSH Graffiti" - a range of gilded wooden typography for interiors which is hand carved by a rice farmers co-operative in Bali but I also work with indigenous communities in the Indonesian rainforest and launched "operation PLANET BASKET" to help them sell their crafts, part of an important forest regeneration initiative.

During your stay
We are not usually around to meet you as I often have to work away from home and my boys are students. When I am not around, Ben, who owns The Glide Surf School (easily found on the promenade) is on hand to deal with emergencies and things that cannot be resolved with me by phone or email.
