Interaction with guests

Although the Garden Room Annexe has a fully equipped kitchenette and dining table you may prefer a home cooked breakfast when you stay. As I am retired I am usually found at home pottering in the garden, so am able to assist you during your stay in any way I can. Sally is a wonderful host. The annexe is stunning - quaint, small but equipped with everything you can think of. We really appreciated the little extras like a Nespresso machine, croissants and fresh eggs. The garden is beautiful, with a hot tub right next to the river. The shower is excellent and bed very comfortable. We loved playing with the dogs. Thank you so much Sally!

This is the most beautiful, tranquil, perfect place we have ever stayed. This was our mini moon break after getting married and it did not disappoint. The annexe is the perfect little getaway. Everything was provided from milk to shower gel and shampoo. We'd even forgotten doggy shampoo for our little pooch Holly and within a second Sally had replied to my message and bought some round. The grounds the annexe is in and the hot tub are an added luxury. We could've spent hours throwing the ball for Sally's dogs. If you book up to stay here you will not be disappointed. The whole experience was just breathtaking. Sally is wonderful too. All her hard work really has paid off. It's just stunning. Thanks again Sally. We cannot wait to come back!

After a nice welcome from Sally, we have spend some wonderful time at the nice cottage. All amenities were available, good wifi quality. It is a great place for, in my opinion, max 2 persons. Unfortunately there was too little of time to enjoy the nice surroundings. Hope to go back next year to sally's place for the ceramic art fair at Hatfield

Sally's place on the whole was very relaxing and peaceful. The hottub was in a wonderful setting albeit a short distance from our accommodation past the owner's accommodation. We did have a few concerns though such as not being given a key (we were informed we could have one but it was not necessary) which we thought should have been a given, we were handed "poo-bags" to clean up after the owner's dog and those she was looking after "should we see any" (I managed to hide my look of horror at this point), and we had to try and dash to our car whenever we left the accommodation for fear that the dogs would come round and jump up at us. The accommodation itself is lovely but the above concerns would put us off returning.

We arrived at the house and were greeted by our host Sally, who was very friendly and welcoming during our stay. We were booked into The Annexe which is a lovely, cosy space with the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in! We opted for use of the hot tub which was fab; the atmosphere in the garden, by the river, in the dark is amazing. We also had a cooked breakfast the following morning, which we both enjoyed. The property as a whole really is a beautiful place to stay and we felt it had a real magical feel to it at times. Sally seems to have thought of everything from the selection of different teas/coffees in the kitchen down to spare hair clips to use whilst in the hot tub; we also loved that there was seating in many parts of the garden and along the river so we could choose to relax anywhere. We spent a fair bit of time playing with Sally's dog Hector and other visiting dogs, they were all impeccably behaved and a delight to be around. We only stayed one night but would have loved to stay longer, the peace and quiet was lovely and the The Annexe allowed us the privacy we wanted. We would definitely recommend a stay and would happily return again in the future.

Sally User ProfileSally is a superhost.

Hello, I’m Sally Trendell and I’m looking forward to welcoming you to stay in my beautiful Tudor Cottage which is in rural Hertfordshire yet is so close to central London.

After flying as a Purser on the British Airways Worldwide Fleet for almost four decades (over 18 million miles clocked up!) I’d like to think that I understand the true meaning of good service and hospitality. I’ve certainly experienced both ends of the scale myself! I’ve had amazing experiences on my travels on every continent of the world - except Antarctica! I’ve watched the sun rise over Victoria Falls in the early 80’s and I have also visited Iguassu Falls and, in comparison, the slightly disappointing Niagara Falls. I’ve walked with the conservationist George Adamson and his lions in Kenya and had some fabulous beach holidays on several Caribbean Islands, The Seychelles, Malaysia, The Philippines and Mauritius. I have made many good friends from all over the world in cities such as Sydney, Auckland, Hong Kong, Nairobi, New York, Los Angeles, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

My passion is creating my garden in which I love to entertain my good friends. I am very proud to have opened my previous garden to the public five times since 2009 through the National Garden Scheme which raises money for good charitable causes. I moved to The White Cottage in the Summer of 2013 and have worked hard to beautify the lovely (but somewhat overgrown) garden I inherited and in June 2016 my ‘new’ garden here will open for the first time (see I have also organised numerous recitals and open-air classical music concerts since 1993 and have personally raised thousands of pounds for the charity ‘Dreamflight’ started by fellow British Airways crew members back in 1987 as well as financially supporting the Ayot St Lawrence restorations.
I own a super friendly dog Hector - a working cocker spaniel who will encourage you to throw the ball for him at every opportunity. I also have an elderly Ragdoll cat called Tilly-Jinx who naturally rules the whole place! I often have other friends’ dogs staying with me here in my large secure garden location. Some other hobbies I enjoy are entertaining/party planning (I have even hosted a wedding in my last garden,) seeking out antiques and quirky collectables - often visiting the local reclaim yards for unusual items to use in my garden projects, flower arranging and photography. My local photography teacher brings her students here for day trips to enjoy the wonderful surroundings and then to visit the beautiful church nearby at Ayot St. Peter…I provide lunch and refreshments hopefully outside in fine weather.

One of my favourite subjects to capture on film (or with the binoculars which are provided for guests) are the numerous English garden birds which frequent my well stocked feeders. As well as all the usual suspects you will probably see buzzards, red kites and kestrels, herons, ducks and moorhens, woodpeckers and even a kingfisher! The sound of birdsong in my garden gives me much pleasure as does the local countryside, literally on my doorstep, in which I love to walk and exercise my dogs.

As Annie Lennox sang in the Eurythmics song back in 1981 ‘Sweet dreams are made of this….I travelled the world and the seven seas….etc’ Well, my travelling days are now over and I’m living my own sweet retirement dream here in my idyllic home where I hope to meet you soon.
