Our holiday home in the heart of Pondoland. As a family we love "On the Rocks". The house sits atop a rocky outcrop overlooking the beautiful tidal estuary. Spend your days fishing, swimming in the river, chilling on the beach or taking in the views!

The space

Totally unique environment. Our house is looked after by Patrick & Julia who live locally. (We live 1,300kms away). Julia attends to the cleaning and Patrick will show you around the area, show you the best spots to fish, fetch bait & even teach your kids how to fish or help bait their lines. He also is on hand to fix any issues that may arise with the cottage. Patrick & Julia are an additional R130 each per day, which is to be paid directly to them, in cash, including your first and last days. This is a very rural location where jobs are hard to find, so this extra that you give helps out these families & community. This is a compulsory requirement that is set by the Chief of the village.
The house water is from rainwater off the roof so you must be water wise! And bring your own drinking water.
There are 3 ensuite facilities (toilet, basin & shower) attached to the 3 bedrooms, all of which open out onto the stoep over looking the estuary. There is one room with a king size bed, one with a queen size bed and another with two single beds and two sets of bunk beds. (the bunk beds are suitable for children only).
There is a lounge & dining room over looking the estuary with a TV & DVD player & DSTV decoder (you must bring your own DSTV card). There is a full kitchen & Weber braai.
Access to the cottage when raining can be difficult! (Contact me for details).
You also have access to a shared boat house where you can use the kayak and our dinghy. You can even braai/bbq down by the river.

If you have any questions then don't hesitate to contact me.

Other things to note

The third bedroom has two single beds and two bunk beds.

A wonderful place with a scenic view. House offers everything you need when staying close to nature. Helen arranged everything very nicely. Patrick and Julia made sure we are feeling welcome during our stay in this lovely and unique African village. The seafood was epic and the kids enjoyed to be away from modern life... Thank you Colin & Helen for this very special holidays

If you look for a quiet and safe location, at the edge of a small village with warmhearted friendly neighborhood... overseeing a river moth, with the Indian Ocean in its back.., if you want to wake up in the middle of a grandios scenic landscapes, offered fresh fish by the neighbors, just in case you did not catch your own... Go for On the Rocks... We were a family of seven, incl. a 3 months infant... we enjoined every minute

The kids loved every minute and Patrick was a great host. Mesmerizing views from a lovely cottage and we plan to return soon. Helen was great and followed up to ensure we were comfortable.

The location of this cottage is stunning. It's quite a drive from Pretoria or Johannesburg, but absolutely worth it. We did stop halfway to make it a bit shorter. Beautiful view from the deck of the cottage to the lagoon. The cottage is very comfortable with everything you need available. Julia was the lady who helped clean in the house, she was very helpful. We did go for walks on the beaches, went fishing with Patrick who knows the area very well. Patrick also took us up the river and lagoon with the little motorboat (our kids loved it!). Both Patrick and Julia are very humble people and both very helpful. The local people brought seafood to the cottage which we bought and enjoyed very much, also local artwork. The one day was rainy and we explored the local areas a bit in our car, it was certainly interesting, but also quite slippery! Thanks for a great stay Helen, wish we could stay longer, maybe another time !
