Description

The space

Welcome! This basement level apartment has a private entrance from the street with a coded lock for convenience. Guests who appreciate privacy, love to explore on foot, and welcome a beautiful urban oasis (Patterson Park) at their doorstep will appreciate our cozy little gem.

Guest access

The rear door leads to a private space, BUT feel free to open that back door when you are home for fresh air and sunshine- just be sure to close and lock it when you leave. Because you will inhabit your own private space, you are free to come and go as you wish.

Interaction with guests

We are always available for any questions that may arise during your stay. In addition, we are always happy to meet our guests and show them some of our favorite city places. We live right upstairs and are full of tips and advice about food, drink, museums, and historical stuff:) We love playing tourist in our home city.

The neighbourhood

The house, dating from 1900, sits among some of the most dynamic neighborhoods in Baltimore. This is an area that has both a historic charm and a quirky Baltimore character. Take time to walk around the neighborhood, noticing the difference in the character of the house on different types of streets, and appreciate the Victorian details, like the intricately carved and painted rooftop cornices.

The area from Butcher's Hill down to the Canton waterfront is currently experiencing a renaissance, so you will notice many houses and businesses under renovation or construction. Visit the small cafes, restaurants and bars of the area, all pretty much within walking distance.

The Park
Patterson Park is a wonderful asset in east Baltimore, providing bicycling, walking, swimming, tennis, soccer, sledding, bird watching, and of course dog walking opportunities. Ethnic festivals are held here in the warm months, as well as weekly concerts by local bands. The Chinese Pagoda (built in the 1890’s) is a focal point at one of the highest points in the park. It was from here that the Baltimore Militia held back the British Army in the War of 1812 after the naval bombardment at Fort McHenry (that led to the words for the national anthem).

Some restaurants we recommend (walking distance):
Patterson Perk- morning coffee/ breakfast sammies, etc. (2501 Eastern Ave)
Bistro Rx- moderately priced with generous happy hour drinks (2901 E Baltimore St),
SALT- creative, seasonal dishes, fun cocktails, closest to our place (2127 E Pratt),
Henninger’s Tavern- quaint neighborhood hang out, interesting art, local specialties (1812 Bank St),
Verde Pizza- homemade everything, upscale pizza and bar (641 S Montford Ave)
Mama's on the Half Shell- historic pub, local flavors on lively Canton Square (2901 O'Donnell St)
See our guidebook for a fully listing.

Getting around

Although you can walk to so many places from our home, there are multiple options for public transport:

Bus stops are located right on Patterson Park Avenue and just around the corner on Pratt Street. (URL HIDDEN)

Charm City Circulator: Free bus to many tourist sights. (URL HIDDEN)

Water Taxis: Fun way to see the city, though not free! (URL HIDDEN)

Of course Uber: (URL HIDDEN)

Other things to note

PARKING:
There is plenty of free parking on the street, but on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings there are restrictions in place so the street can be cleaned - so read the signs carefully if you don't want a ticket. Parking gets more challenging in the evenings after everyone comes home from work, but we usually manage to find a spot within a few blocks, Our street is the best source for parking in the area.
