Glamping at Mussel Beach Wilderness Campground, on the West Coast of Vancouver Island is off grid camping in style. Beachcomber, 1 of 5 wall tents, has a Queen bed with luxury bedding, a table & chairs, futon couch, wood stove, covered porch & outdoor kitchen with all the amenities. All tents are beach front with fantastic ocean views and minutes to the out houses and gravity fed out door showers. After a 30 minute slow drive down a logging road you arrive to do some serious chillaxing.

The space

The large, deluxe canvas tent is 14' x 16', nice and roomy for two adults. The futon couch converts to a double bed if extra space is needed. There is an outdoor, covered porch, covered kitchen and private beach front access. The cedar outhouse and heated showers are steps away and very clean. More photos on our website sodamnluckyvacations.

Guest access

Beachcomber is on it's own private site with an ocean view of Barkley Sound. There is a double hammock and a fire pit on site, or if you prefer have a beach fire and watch the night sky. On your arrival you will have a 18 L bottle of drinking water, a 16 L jug of non potable water, ice packs in your cooler and your first nights fire wood for your stove. After that you can purchase drinking water, ice & firewood at reasonable prices.

Interaction with guests

We spend our summers at Mussel Beach, so can help with anything you may need. Lori and Curtis manage Mussel Beach Wilderness Campground, so they are also available.

Other things to note

The gravel road to Mussel Beach is approximately 20-30 minutes. It can be a rough road, depending on time of year and weather, just GO SLOW and you will have no problems. Mussel Beach is Wilderness, off the grid, no power. We do, however, get good cell service due to the Coast Guard tower near by. Note that the Mussel Beach gate is closed between 10pm and 7am. Message us if you need to make arrangements to get in at this time.

It's an incredibly special part of the world. Absolutely stunning scenery, even in the rain :-). We only stayed one night but still saw bears, eagles and chipmunks. The tents/kitchen set up was great. Bed was warm and comfortable. Mark was knowledgeable and friendly and on hand whenever we needed him. We loved it and can't recommend higher.

Mark and Danielle were wonderful hosts, they were great to communicate with and were very attentive and helpful. The location is amazing, the beach is beautiful and our tent and surroundings were exactly as advertised. we saw bears on the beach 3 out of the 4 days we stayed, and regular seal and eagle sightings. We would not hesitate to stay here again on future adventures to Vancouver island.

Our stay here was an amazing adventure. Currently 9 months into a round the world trip and this is up at the top of the Wow moments. The accommodation itself is great. The bed is so comfy and there is everything you need in the kitchen area to make a great meal. When we arrived it was miserable and drizzling.......but they had arranged to have our fire lit in the tent so it was very cosy. Mark and Danielle are great hosts and nothing was too much trouble. The highlight was sat on the beach watching the bear further round. A little bit of paradise. Would highly recommend. ......... do not worry about the access road ...lol.we had a normal car and as long as you are slow it is fine.

A very memorable place to stay. If you like peaceful wilderness and feeling close to nature (bear spotting easily done from the beach!) Mussel Beach is a brilliant spot. Mark and Danielle were very friendly hosts and were always on hand to help, whilst respecting the privacy of their guests. A couple of negatives about our stay were that we were a bit surprised by the close proximity of our luxury 'beachcomber' tent to our hosts living quarters (not obvious from photos). We also may have been unlucky with the timing of our trip (late summer season) but using the communal long drop toilets was an experience we didn't look forwards to.

We had a great experience here. Everything was well set up. Make sure you bring food because it is a long trip back to town if you don't. The bed and futon were both comfortable and the tent was warm with the stove going. We did arrive during prime mosquito time (late evening) and unfortunately let a lot into our tent as we unloaded, which made for a long evening of swatting. This was no one's fault but our own, but a friendly caution. Would recommend this location again for sure.

Response from Danielle & Mark:
Thanks for coming out Ryan. Our electronic bug zapper makes a huge difference in the tent - saves dancing around trying to swat the little buggers.

Don't let the logging road stand in your way to a coastal oasis. The shoreline changes from serene to stormy, sunny to misty, and provides a home to bears, eagles, and a variety of marine life. We spent an enjoyable time discovering tidal pools. The tent was spacious and warmed by a wood fire.

Response from Danielle & Mark:
Thank you Dara and Greg! Great chatting with you while watching the world here....
