Description

The space

The large, deluxe canvas tent is 14' x 16', nice and roomy for two adults. The futon couch converts to a double bed if extra space is needed. There is an outdoor, covered porch, covered kitchen and private beach front access. The cedar outhouse and heated showers are steps away and very clean. More photos at sodamnluckyvacations and follow us on So Damn Lucky Vacations.

Guest access

Stardust is on it's own private site with an ocean view of Barkley Sound. There is a double hammock and a fire pit on site, or if you prefer have a beach fire and watch the night sky. On your arrival you will have a 18 L bottle of drinking water, a 16 L jug of non potable water, ice packs in your cooler and your first nights fire wood for your stove. After that you can purchase drinking water, ice & firewood at reasonable prices.

Interaction with guests

We spend our summers at Mussel Beach, so can help with anything you may need. Lori and Curtis manage Mussel Beach Wilderness Campground, so they are also available.

The neighbourhood

Ucluelet is a quaint fishing village, a 35 minute drive away. You can pick up anything you may need there. Tofino is a 55 minute drive away and is a quaint artsy, surfing town. Then there is Long Beach in-between, a must see. You can stay put at Mussel Beach and do some serious chillaxing or go for an adventure. There is whale watching, fishing, kayaking, beach combing & hiking all near by.

Getting around

You do need a vehicle to get to Mussel Beach, 4 wheel drive is not necessary just GO SLOW. There is a wonderful beach that has a lot of variety, that can keep you busy for a while. Visit the cave, do some swimming, check out tide pools

Other things to note

The gravel road to Mussel Beach is approximately 30 minutes. It can be a rough road, depending on time of year and weather, just GO SLOW and you will have no problems. Mussel Beach is Wilderness, off the grid, no power. We do, however, get good cell service due to the Coast Guard tower near by.

My friend and I were greeted by Mark at the gate, the night that we arrived was the night of a crazy storm. The tent was warm as a fire was lit prior to our arrival. Both Danielle and Mark are fantastic hosts and easily accessible and accomodating. They even made suggestions as things to do. The hatchery was a lovey treat! Upon arrival, the view was breath taking, and tent and amenities perfect for a getaway. Given it was on the cooler side, the shower was warm and an experience to remember. The kitchen was stocked with everything you could possibly need, without electricity. Definitely would return in future! 3 nights was not enough time to fully appreciate this gem of a place! Thanks Danielle and Mark for this incredible experience!

We stayed for 2 nights as part of our annual surf trip to Ucluelet/Tofino. All in all we had a great time at Stardust and Danielle and Mark were welcoming and accommodating. I think for people who are campers, you'll love the experience, it's a beautiful part of the world and the rocky beach is an amazing place to explore. Admittedly we were unprepared as travellers who don't camp, which influenced our experience. A few things I wish I would have known before booking: 1) this tent is in a busy campground and though there is a private view of the beach, the site is just a few metres away from other sites. I thought it would have been more private and with so many people around, it was a little noisy. Bring earplugs and you should be OK. 2)Though it's listed as having the entire place, the outhouse and showers are shared with many other campers. 3) The road in is challenging if you are in a car. It's certainly doable but because it took so long, we had to change our plans for our stay as we didn't want to have to drive that road more than twice a day. 4) You will need to light your own fire in the wood stove and keep it going throughout the night. Our first night we didn't have enough wood and we woke up very cold on the tent. The tent was beautiful and had lights and candles throughout. We enjoyed having the stove, drinking water and necessary items to make coffee/tea in the morning. Would recommend to anyone looking for a camping experience in a luxurious tent in a beautiful location.

Response from Danielle & Mark:
Yes, the West Coast is very busy from mid June until mid September. Being off the beaten track offers a wilderness experience.

We had a wonderful stay at Mark and Danielle's paradise. Everything was so well thought out and set up for us and they were always nearby in case we had any questions or required some assistance with anything. The campground setting is spectacular...a truly authentic West Coast Vancouver Island experience. We definitely plan to come back and highly recommend it! Cheers guys!
