Description

The space

This is a sweet little house with 2 separate bedrooms with single beds in each. One in the loft and the other on the main floor . Small basic rustic kitchen. Lots of hot water for showers. There are grocery stores in the village to buy supplies to cook full meals . Each room with single bed suitable for one guest. Unique little Mexican village. A few stores and restaurants. There is horse back riding and ATV rentals nearby. There is a bus that passes hourly for Puerta Vallarta and airport. The house sits on a large property with shade trees; hammock; and lots of birds. The big beautiful beach is only a 10 minute walk away. The owner lives in a separate house on the property and enjoys giving guests orientation about what to do in the area.

Guest access

House has small kitchen and outside area to rinse out clothes and relax in hammock.

Interaction with guests

I let guests decide how much time they need. I have ran a B&B in Canada for 10 Years and one in Mexico on Lake Chapala for another 10

The neighbourhood

This is a real Mexican village complete with all the sounds of Mexico including roosters and children playing, and the occasional band for a birthday or wedding on the plaza .

Getting around

The bus is 2 minutes away and runs every half hour to Bucerias and Puerto Vallarta. Parking is free and safe on the property. To arrive from the airport in Puerto Vallarta is very easy There is a good bus that runs from the airport to here every half hour and it costs about 30pesos

Other things to note

Have lived in Mexico for 20 years and love sharing my experiences with visitors

Casa Christine in Higuera Blanca is a true treasure. The property offers the reality of a small Mexican village with roosters, hens and chicks running about. Christine and Casey (our sweet companion and watchdog) are the perfect balance of hospitable, informative and present for anything you need. The small grocery offers convenience on the way to the beach or into the town plaza. The 15 minute walk to the beach provides a small village experience and then a breathtaking quiet space to sun with your thoughts. Our experience was better than we could've hoped and will definitely be back!!

My stay at Christine's place was an utter disappointment. I had chosen to stay with her because of the excellent reviews she had collected, but those excellent reviews did not match the experience I had. It was not until I arrived at the her property that she told me she was constructing a new house less than 10 feet away from the casita I would be staying in. There was a cement mixer running all day, just a few steps from my door. As 3 of the 4 walls of the casita are made of metal mesh, the noise was even more disruptive. I tried my best to enjoy my first couple of days there, but then decided to leave due to the daily noise. My mother (back home) had to book me into a resort to get me out of there quickly. When Christine and I spoke about why I was leaving, she seemed understanding and apologetic, and even asked the construction workers to turn the cement mixer off until I could leave the next day. She then agreed to refund me for the remainder of the week that I was cancelling my stay with her. Then upon my departure, she stopped me at the gate to inform me that she was going to be decreasing the amount of my refund. After I reminded her of how much she had previously agreed to, she then proceeded to try and BUY my review. She asked me how my review would change if she agreed to refund me the full amount we had agreed on earlier, instead of the decreased amount she was then proposing. Flabbergasted, I told her my review could not be bought, and she then agreed A SECOND TIME to refund me the full amount for the days I wouldn't be there. However, by the next day, she wrote me a message declining my request for a refund and saying she would be providing me with $0. I was shocked. While Airbnb has done a great job resolving this issue and getting my money back, I think it is imperative for future "guests" of Christine to know how I was treated. Shame on you Christine, for going back on your word and trying to take my money for the 4 nights I had to spend escaping your place. I had to take a vacation from my vacation! A stay in a small Mexican village in a quaint casita is one thing. But staying in one with a cement mixer a few feet from your door is a whole different experience. 0 stars.

This is a fascinating little house for people who like something out of the ordinary. I loved the spiral staircase leading to the loft. The house is located on a large property with beautiful trees, some of which support shaded hammocks. Casey, the dog, is friendly and likes to play. The baby chickens are adorable. Christine is a great host, friendly and helpful. I would happily spend time there again.

This is the experience of living in the midst of a small Mexican Village. The accommodations are rustic and adequate...the noises of the village included dogs barking, music playing and roosters crowing...a short walk to a long private beach..various different restaurants to eat out including local eateries, a pizza place with a drop-dead view of the sunset and ocean, and live music. There is also an upscale restaurant on the beach as well...local bus transportation is cheap and easy and can take you anywhere you want to go. Best of all is Christine. She is caring and has a wealth of knowledge about the area. She is happy to answer all your questions. Her story is amazing and may inspire you to sell your home and stay forever!

I love to read swim travel to new places. Like to cook and am a vegetarian. Enjoy wine. My favorite day starts with a good cup of coffee followed by a stroll on the beach with my dog Casey.
