Cagnes-sur-Mer was a jewel of a find. We didn't know much about the city, but wanted to be somewhere close to the airport in Nice for our last two days in France. Cedric was away, but his mum contacted us the day before to get an approximate arrival time and thereafter to offer advice on how to find the apartment, give us the access code to the gated community and in general assure that our arrival was trouble free. We were initially met by Cedric's dad, who helped us carry our bags up the few flights of stairs and showed us the apartment. It was both interesting and humorous discussing the attributes of the apartment and the area, because my understanding of French is halting and he had very little English. Luckily Annette has some ability to converse in French and he also had his wife's phone number on speed dial so most of the specifics got covered one way or the other. We met Cedric's mother later and she answered our few remaining questions. Both of Cedric's parents were accommodating and gracious hosts. The apartment itself was perfect. If anything, it is even better than the description and photos indicate in the listing. I'm not sure if it had been recently renovated but everything seemed new and fresh. You walk in and to your immediate right is the dining area, should you choose to dine inside. To the left is a perfectly appointed kitchen. Beyond the dining table is a large living area with lots of comfortable seating. Deeper into the apartment is a bedroom on the left that also connects to the kitchen through a back balcony, which is a great place to set up the portable clothes drying rack. Turning right, you head towards the large master bedroom with a very comfortable bed. Another feature of the apartment is the spacious washroom with a large modern shower stall and beach size bath towels. However, for us the piece de resistance was the balcony reachable through sliding doors off the living room, as well as from the bedroom. The balcony can be shuttered and also has an adjustable awning for shade. The view is absolutely stunning: rooftops and tropical vegetation sprawling below, on the horizon to the right the mountains, straight ahead the old city and to the left the Mediterranean. We were enjoyed our morning and evening meals there each day. The apartment is conveniently located with everything you need only a short walk away. It's an easy 15 minute downhill stroll (not quite as easy coming back!) to the pebble beach, which is miles long, as is the promenade along the seafront. This is a wonderful area to swim, people watch or just relax and daydream. We were very pleased with our stay at Cedric's ... we felt completely at ease. It was the perfect way to end our first trip to France. Given the opportunity, we would definitely stay there again.
