This seasonal cottage sits on the edge of Cayuga Lake with 70ft of water front, porches, a small walk-in lake entry, and plenty of dock space. The house has four bedrooms to sleep a family comfortably, with a full-service kitchen and 1.5 baths.

The space

It will be hard to get closer to the lake than this lovely summer cottage on Cayuga. Enjoy evening bonfires on the water, and spend your days on the porch, dock, and in the water. Inside you will find plenty of sleeping space, a full kitchen and family room on the main floor.

Bedrooms 1,2 and 3 are on the second floor (along with the full bathroom). 2 of these bedrooms share a common ceiling - i.e. the wall separating these two rooms does not fully go to the ceiling. So you can hear some room-to-room noise over the 8 foot wall. Usually not an issue for families but perhaps a concern for some.

House faces east so beautiful early morning sun can make sleeping in late a little tricky.

The second floor (with 3 bedrooms) has a full bathroom with tub/shower combo. The mail floor has a small bathroom (toilet only) plus a outdoor shower (great for quick rinse after swimming!).

House has lake source water. The water is filtered but not chlorinated/purified. We provide a dispenser and purified/bottled water for drinking.

Guest access

Guests will have complete access to the house, dock and non-motorized water sports (kayak, paddle boards, row boat, wind surfer). Note that guests access the property via ~60 steps from the parking area.

Interaction with guests

Hosts live next door and will be available to assist with questions during your stay.

Other things to note

Seasonal cottage (not insulated) with wood stove to keep you cozy on cooler summer nights. No AC, usually not a problem as summer nights cool down to make sleeping very comfortable. If you have questions about cottage please email us prior to booking!

Beautiful spot on Cayuga Lake and great that it's just a short walk from some of the best burgers in town. Lindsay and Chris were very gracious, flexible and quick to respond to any issues. Built us a lovely fire for smores and made kayaks, paddle boards and a small motor boat and paddle boat available for our use. And cheerily gave us a jump on departure morning when our car would not start. Porch is a perfect place to perch and watch the water activity. Wifi worked perfectly so no problem keeping up with work and streaming Netflix etc.

I have rented on Cayuga lake several times before and this by favorite experience. The owners are amazing! The house was great too and the location is perfect for a little family getaway! Highly recommended!!

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage with another couple for our college reunion. We had room for more to stay, although the one full bath puts a bit of a limit on how many showering adults you can have there. The cottage location is perfect. Our hosts supplied all the info we needed, were there when we had a small issue and kept the lakefront pristine. The weather was incredible. We enjoyed using the kayaks, dock and firepit. The kitchen is very well equipped, and there were plenty of back up supplies such as paper towel , charcoal fire starter. We hope to be back soon.

What a lovely graduation and Memorial weekend! We were skeptical about staying in a lake house since we're not very outdoorsy people. It turned out to be a great choice because everyday was different from the next. We enjoyed being able to see the sunrise and beautiful pink sunsets or watch the Cornell crew team early in the morning. Lindsay and Chris were very hospitable and were always available if we needed anything. The cottage had plenty of room and enough kitchen wares to cook which I managed to do a few times despite our hectic schedules. Our kids loved the fire pit and making smores every night. They also loved the paddle boards and kayaking. What we enjoyed the most was just hanging out in the front lawn, watching the beautiful lake views. The rain didn't even dampen our trip because even the rain in Lake Cayuga was so different and interesting. It was a very special trip, definitely one for the books! We'll be back in three years when our next one graduates!

We truly had a great time at this lake front cottage. Lindsay and Chris were great hosts. We enjoyed the paddle boards, fishing from the paddle boat and swimming. We woke up to the sunrise everyday and wish we could have stayed longer. It was a nice break from the Hamptons.

Cottage is well situated on Cayuga just north of Ithaca so easy to access to city amenities while still a feel of being in a lightly populated area right on the water and close to good hiking, especially to area waterfalls. Beautiful views of the lake from the cottage. Lots of amenities for water provided including two kayaks (one a bit uncomfortable to use as it is flat and without a seat), a paddle board and paddle boat. It was nice, too, to have wood provided for an outdoor evening fire in a designated circle in front of the cottage by the lake, along with all the fixings for s'mores. The many-stepped, steep staircase down to the house did not pose a problem to grandparents, or their adult children (or a two-year old grandchild, with help). That said, the house was a bit more ramshackle than we had expected, especially the upstairs three bedrooms. Perhaps this is to be expected in a lake cottage, but a bit of sprucing up and tightening up would be helpful. The house faces east, which makes for beautiful sunrises over the lake. Lack of blinds or curtains on windows in at least one upstairs bedroom made for earlier awakenings than were sometimes desired. Also, it was a bit odd to have a window facing the interior corridor in the downstairs 1/2 bath, since it made privacy there difficult. The area outside the bathroom was little trafficked as it was under the stairs to the second floor, so the window didn't discourage use of the bathroom entirely, but one felt a bit self-conscious using it. Finally, we were glad to have learned from prior posts on Airbnb that the water from the faucets is not potable. No mention of this is made in the cottage. We learned later from the owner when he visited that the water from the faucets is filtered but not chlorinated. Plenty of bottled water is provided by a "bubbler" so there was no lack of potable water. It just took a little to get used to using it for all drinking water needs.

Robert, thanks for staying with us and we appreciate your feedback. We have updated the description in our listing to better communicate the rustic nature of the cottage as well as made it clear that we provide bottled water for drinking as the filtered tap water is not chlorinated. We will also make sure to get some window coverings for the bedroom as you are correct the early morning sunrise - while beautiful - makes sleeping in a little tricky, thanks again!

My family has been vacationing on the west shore of Cayuga Lake since 2009, and Lindsay and Chris's cottage measured up to our expectations. The location is perfect. There's a small lawn between the porch and the lake's shore. We spent many hours on the porch, reading and eating meals. There are several rockers and a wonderful porch swing! The house has convenient access to everything that Ithaca offers. You can take a mini-wine tour (also a couple of hard cider places and a distillery) along the west shore. There are several beautiful waterfalls to hike, although in this year's drought the falls aren't running much. The cottage is utterly charming and very well cared for. I was delighted to see that three bedrooms open up onto porches that face the water. The view and proximity to the water are important to my family. We had a little welcome basket waiting for us - nice touch! Lindsay and Chris were super-available to answer questions. I would give them TEN stars for communication if I could. In addition to being readily available, they were kind, generous, friendly, and responsive to every request/question. They graciously shared their "water toys" with us and we made frequent use of the stand-up paddle boards and kayaks all week. If you use the oven, note that we found it to be hotter than its setting. The first thing I baked was a bit burned (my fault, I should have checked). The second thing I baked came out fine because I set the oven temp 25 degrees lower than instructed and baked for a shorter amount of time, checking frequently. To reinforce other reviewers' comments... The heads-up about the steps (62 of them, to be exact) from parking to house should be heeded. This is not a show-stopper, just know that the walk up to your car can be daunting if you're not in good shape. Bedroom configuration on the 2nd floor: one bedroom has complete privacy; the other two bedrooms share a partial wall, and sound as well as light may be an issue. Again, for us not a show-stopper but just be advised. A water dispenser for drinking and cooking is provided. This is perfectly workable and appreciated. The bugs were pretty bad (mosquitoes and black flies), probably due to an overnight storm, and can be expected at the lake. The "half bath" is only a toilet in a small room behind the kitchen. You will need to use the kitchen sink for washing. All in all, a very memorable vacation. Thank you, Lindsay and Chris, for offering your beautiful property!
