Ipericus Two is located in the center of Ypres next to the ancient city walls dating back to the Middle Ages. You're close to the market, very close to the walls and with plenty of parking space in the neighborhood. Built in 1922 right after WW1.

The space

Built in 1921 right after WW1, this house is a typical one. During the renovation as much original elements were preserved to give you a taste of how people lived back then (but upgraded and enlarged to accommodate our current needs of course). The housefront itself is protected by law and considered to be part of the Ypres architectural patrimony. During the autumn and summer you will find a table and chairs outside on the small courtyard to enjoy breakfast, a coffee or have a smoke.

Guest access

The complete house is yours to use, except for the heating room and the fire safety section where all has been in place to keep your stay safe and warm. And I would like to keep it that way :). Heating is included in the price but during the winter months all heating costs above 10 euro per day will be charged separately. In other words: be smart and don't excessively heat the house when you are out and about in town or elsewhere :). If you use these simple guidelines you should not excess the cost of 10 euro per day (I checked it myself to have an idea of how much one spends per day when not leaving the doors open etc. It worked out perfectly).

Interaction with guests

When possible I'll be present to welcome you and give you a small tour of the house plus instruct you of the safety regulations in place. I'm very familiar with the region and the history of WW1 and WW2 and it will be a pleasure to point you out a few things which you won't hear or find that quickly in the touristic info available.

Other things to note

- I'm at your disposal for information and tips for good restaurants, cosy coffee bars etc.

- Wifi is free to use and is largely sufficient and strong to do your normal browsing, but please don't download illegally, don't download huge files, don't stream YouTube all the day.
- If you have Spotify enabled, then feel free to use it all the day, it doesn't eat a huge amount of data (I also placed an iPhone/iPod docking station for your convenience). Note that you will need the lightening adapter if you are on iPhone 5 or higher to use the docking station.
- Please do not smoke inside the house (it will set of the fire alarm to start with + nobody likes to be in the smell of a smoked house after you have left). There will be an ashtray to use outside on the small courtyard.
- Please keep it tidy and clean pots and pans etc when you have cooked.
- When you have broken something, please report it to me. It's not so I could use the warranty, but to be able to change broken items.
- Pets are not allowed.
- Heating is included in the price but during the winter months all heating costs above 10 euro per day will be charged separately. - You can consult various books on WW1 in and around Ypres. Please keep them intact. They are precious to me.

My first airbnb experience, and a very good way to start! Bernard has a wonderful house located centrally enough to be a short walk from the main square, but far enough away to be perfectly quiet. We had everything we needed for our stay and, even though it wasn't needed, I felt confident that Bernard could be contacted at any time for help or advice. The house does have steep stairs between its three floors, but this is only going to be a problem if you have mobility issues. I look forward to visiting Ypres again, it's wonderful, and I'd happily stay at Ipericus.

Very nice to be welcomed with cold beer in the fridge. Very nice little house (just like the pictures), fully equipped with everything you'd need. Perfectly located for a weekend in Ypres, walking distance from everything in the town. Arrival was smooth. Recommended!

I'm married to my lovely Mexican wife Maria who I've met through Airbnb when I was traveling through Mexico. How cute things can get :). Together we run 2 holiday houses in Ypres while my mum takes care of a holiday cottage in Handzame near Diksmuide.

The cottage in Handzame is an old house which my mother completely renovated. Kudos to her for the excellent job she did. The 2 houses in Ypres were bought a few years ago and have been completely renovated afterwards. We all have a social virus and are open for a good chat on local history and life in general.

So far we have had the pleasure getting hundreds of visitors from allover the world who stayed 1 night to 7 weeks even.

On a personal side I co-run the record label Alfa Matrix producing, releasing and distributing the music from over 40 bands including FRONT 242, RECOIL, PSY'AVIAH, AYRIA and many many more. Next to that I also am the chief editor of the online magazine Side-Line informing about industrial and electro music news, and that since 1999. And finally I also run a website on Hergé's compagnon Bob De Moor who played a big role in the Tintin albums since the early 50s.

While I'm professionally more busy with electronic music, I tend to prefer the more bluesy, jazzy side of music history during the evenings whilst reading a good book on politics, or a novel with a historic background. Dave Brubeck and Billie Holiday are the first names that come to mind. My wife on the other hand has a more latin temperament and as a result the tortillas, tamales, caldos are keeping me more than up to date with the delicious Mexican cuisine.
