Whitetail Ridge is located on a peaceful, rural hilltop setting. There is ample parking and the inn is decorated in a charming style fitting the area's history and culture. There are horses and chickens on the property which furthers the South Dakota ambience. The home is very clean and our room, the Hermosa Suite, was bigger than I expected. I felt that there was the right balance of privacy vs mealtime socializing. Breakfasts were hearty, flavorful and filling without being greasy or heavy. The quality of the food was of higher quality than what you'd find in a typical restaurant, for example they served that thicker cut bacon you normally only get in very high end places. The presentation was lovely with great attention to detail such as artfully folded napkins and patriotic colors on the 4th of July. Darcy and John went out of their way to cater to the interests of my 2 daughters, aged 10 and 11, by teaching them about taking care of chickens and introducing them to the horses. I also appreciated that they were very knowledgeable about the area without being pushy about any particular attraction. We would definitely visit again!

This being my first time staying at a B&B I was a little concerned as to what to do and how you should act. But Darcy and John where more then helpful with everything. They new the area, the sites to see and the best places to go. Very friendly and accommodating but also gave you the space to relax after a long trip. And Darcy makes a killer breakfast.

It has been an exceptional AirBnB stay for us at Darcy's place. Both John and Darcy had a lot of knowledge about the environ and places to cover. We had a lot of fun at breakfast time when the other guests also joined in and the whole event was very much a good family gathering. We are extremely happy to recommend a stay and enjoy the experience at Darcy's home.

Well, you three certainly set the bar for our guests. If only all our guests could be as perfect! ;-)

Mother/daughter road trip!! Our first destination was the Black Hills and White Tail Ridge with hosts, Darcy and John. What a perfect way to start our adventure. They welcomed us warmly to their charming home where the rooms are clean, the beds are super comfortable, and the bedding is luxurious. Darcy and John know all the ins and outs of the Black Hills and the surrounding areas and helped us plan our outings to Mt. Rushmore, Crazyhorse, Custer State Park, area hikes, etc. Some mornings we started our day with a delicious home cooked breakfast thanks to Darcy. The almond/cinnamon vanilla frosted rolls were "to die for." And for those mornings that we needed to get on the road early, Darcy packed us cranberry/orange scones to go. John was in charge of our lunches and we ate well on our hikes or under the shadow of Mt. Rushmore. After very long days we headed back "home" and curled up to watch a DVD that we chose from their extensive and impressive collection. From start to finish it was perfect place to stay!! Big thanks to Darcy and John.

After driving 6 days from Massachusetts, we had a wonderful stay with Darcy and John. They are local experts and the house is very welcoming, the breakfasts were great, and the location is quiet & perfect for exploring both the Badlands and the Black Hills. Their local knowledge and helpful recommendations really made our time there special, and we especially appreciated directions to lovely picnic spots, creekside hikes, and an fantastic chocolate shop!

Darcy and John were wonderful hosts and very helpful in planning our hiking trip in Custer Nat'l park. They have a very comfortable and welcoming home that is centrally located to the Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore and Custer Nat'l Park. We would recommend White-Tail Ridge to anyone visting the area. Darcy User ProfileDarcy is a superhost.

When Darcy and John met, they soon realized that owning and running a bed & breakfast was for them. Today, they are passionate about providing the best experience possible for their guests, and treat them in the same gracious way they expect to be treated...with kindness, warmth, and respect. Darcy has lived a vegetarian lifestyle for most of her adulthood and understands guests’ unique dietary restrictions.

Darcy spent her career in government contracting, and, like her grandmother, always had a knack for hospitality, baking, and crafts. She is originally from the Black Hills. John grew up in Iowa and retired from law enforcement. He's very talented in his workshop. They are avid hikers, bikers and horse-people and spend every moment possible exploring the wonderland of the Black Hills.

(Be sure to ask Darcy about her connection to the famous Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.)
