About this listing
My home is 1/2 block from oceanfront beach, 4 blocks from bay in a walking/biking/family friendly area with it's own activities and attractions. Also within easy reach of other popular beach cities, Disneyland, Hollywood and other iconic LA places.
My artist retreat/beach cottage is a two story, 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath home that has beds for 6. The living room sofa could be used for sleeping if you have a group of 7, at minimal extra cost as specified in pricing (extra towels and bedding would need to be provided). There is a large master with King sized bed and balcony, guest room with a Double, and the den's Daybed converts to two Twins. There is a 50" flat screen TV in the upstairs den, a smaller TV in downstairs living space (only for dvd's) and master bedroom, with cable/premium channels and free wifi. There is an open dining area. The kitchen has all the traditional appliances and necessities such as coffee maker, microwave and dishwasher as well as pots, pans, dishware and cutlery. (no garbage disposal). Paper goods and some basic toiletries will be provided.
There is a nice front brick patio with 2 lounge chairs and round glass table with extra chairs to provide plenty of seating. There is a more private smaller kitchen patio to enjoy a morning or afternoon cup of coffee, and a washer and dryer for use in the garage just off the kitchen. There is a parking space behind the garage off the alley. I don't want the garage door used as a point of entry but I will provide keys for the kitchen french doors and front door, so if you are parked in the space behind the garage you will have to come through a gate off the alley and another gate to the kitchen patio. At night I ask that you put locks on the gates (you don't need to actually lock it) for your own security.
Interaction with guests
I will be out of the country, but will be available via email. I have a person who will be managing for me and will provide neighborhood and other contact information for help if needed.
This is a very unique neighborhood, like a small beach town in the middle of Long Beach. My home is one half block from the oceanfront beach (which is also a well known kite surfing beach) with a wonderful new walking and bike path; four blocks from the bay with it's ideal swimming for small children as well as offering kayak and paddle board rentals; and two long blocks to our "main" street, 2nd St., with a variety of shopping and restaurants. During the summer there are activities almost every weekend on the oceanfront beach, steps from my house, and it is a festive area, especially on the 4th of July. Just over the 2nd St. bridge is Naples, a picturesque area of homes on the canals. In the other direction just up Ocean Blvd is the historic bluffs area where you can have an oceanfront dining experience at Claire's at the Museum, and right next to that is a nearby popular spot that offers free outdoor yoga every day under coral trees with a view of the ocean and Queen Mary. There are a number of other areas for shopping, eating and entertainment such as Shoreline Village and Pine Ave downtown. Local attractions include the Queen Mary and Aquarium of the Pacific, but many other southern California places of interest are easily accessible from here: to the north - Santa Monica, Malibu, Getty museum; east - Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Griffith Park Observatory; and south - Disneyland, southern beaches and San Diego with it's world famous zoo and safari park, as well as Torrey Pines golf course and Del Mar racetrack, just to name a few. I will be providing a comprehensive list of all these attractions and some of my personal favorites.
There is local transportation which can be accessed on 2nd St. or Ocean Blvd. I will provide brochures with bus numbers and schedules. Otherwise, to get around Los Angeles and Southern California you really need a car, and need to keep in mind the high traffic times.
Other things to note
Parking is monitored on my street on Thursdays and Fridays, so you have to pay attention if you don't want a ticket! However, since I do have a parking space behind my home you are one of the lucky ones who doesn't have to worry about street parking. I will be providing a booklet with maps, restaurant and other shopping information and phone numbers that will be helpful during your stay here.
This is my home, and is not often available for rental, so I would like for you to treat it as you would your own home. It is non smoking. I said no to pets but will consider them on individual basis and smaller gatherings are fine, just no big open parties, especially inside the house. Since I live by the beach, I would also ask that sandy towels, shoes and clothing be shaken off or removed before entering the house (and feet cleaned or rinsed off). I'd appreciate also leaving shoes by the door. Of course observe common sense safety precautions such as making sure oven is turned off and power strips turned off when not in use. I have central air which is rarely a necessity here in Long Beach, but if you do need to use it, I would ask that you keep all windows and doors closed when it is in use and of course turn it off when you are not home. This is southern California and water use is always an issue, so I'd ask you to be mindful of that as much as you can while still enjoying your stay. More information will be provided in the house manual you will be provided after your arrival and questions are always welcome! Most of all, enjoy the house!
