The space

308 is a one bedroom apartment, approx. 500 sq. ft. perfect for a couple or up to four using the sleeper sofa.

There is a master bedroom, a large living room and a kitchen complete with gas range. The master bedroom has a very comfortable queen bed. The bedroom is in the middle of the apartment, so it's shielded from street noise. On the wall opposite the bed is an LCD TV with DVD player. The sleeper sofa in the living room is a patented design, and we're told it's the best sleeper sofa in the world! It is very comfortable and queen-sized, so it sleeps two easily.

The kitchen has a full sized gas stove, full sized fridge, a vented microwave and all the cookware and essentials (except the food) for cooking just like home. And if you want to cook at home nothing could be more convenient than the supermarket across the street.

Our building has long-term tenants who have lived here for 8+ years, and visitors from every corner of the world coming for a three-day weekend. We think this is the best place in Seattle to live like a local and take in all our beautiful city has to offer!

The apartment is air conditioned and has high speed wireless internet. It is on the third floor, two flights up from the street, and there is no elevator in our building (it's more than 100 years old!) There is a parking lot directly behind our building, but we're in a location where it's just as easy to walk as it is to drive and find a place to park.

We're located right on the edge of downtown, 10 blocks from the middle of the shopping district, 7 blocks from the Washington State Convention Center. We're about a 20 minute walk from Pike Place Market. Across the street from us is a large grocery store open 24 hours a day, and in our neighborhood there are tons of stores and restaurants ranging from cheap pizza by the slice to 5 course farm-to-table culinary art. Our building has two restaurants, one with American food, the other has Thai food; plus we have a wonderful sandwich deli, and a hair salon too! It's a busy neighborhood with lots going on day and night.

The only extra fee if needed is for a parking spot in the lot behind our building. It's $15 per day, which we collect when you arrive, as AirBnB doesn't have an easy "optional" fees section.

Guest access

Guests have private access to the whole apartment unit. There is a shared laundry room on the second floor of the building that has two washers and two dryers, which are quarter operated, a dollar per load.

Interaction with guests

I am at the building Monday - Friday during regular business hours on most days. When I'm not at the building, Johnny, our live-in building manager, is around to help and to check people in. We do our best to meet and check you in, but depending on your arrival time we may coordinate with you to leave the keys in one of the businesses in our building. For the most part other than checking you in we'll leave you to do your own thing, but you can always contact us with questions about the area or any needs that arise while you're staying with us.

The neighbourhood

Capitol Hill is Seattle's most dynamic neighborhood. There is so much going on - food, entertainment, and more! In each unit there is a guest book with a guide I wrote to the neighborhood including recommendations for good eats and cultural attractions. Want a fancy cocktail? Want to relax at the spa? Want to see internationally famous musicians? Or just try some of Seattle's famous gourmet ice cream with the family? You're within three blocks of all of these possibilities and so many more!

Please be aware that this is an urban environment. In our neighborhood you can expect to encounter people from all walks of life and hear noise, often late into the evening. If a silent outdoor environment is important to you, this part of Seattle may not be the best place for you to stay. That being said, St. John's is an incredible place to experience the city from, and we have security systems, triple-pane windows to reduce the street noise as well as white noise machines in the bedrooms to make sure you sleep easy.

Getting around

There's tons of easy public transportation around - we are 5 blocks from a LINK Light Rail stop (which travels from SeaTac airport all the way up to the University of Washington), there are also 8 different bus lines within one block of us.

With a Walkscore of 99, we absolutely recommend using walking as your main form of transportation once you have checked in.

We are in a dense part of the city and recommend against renting a car if you're on the fence about it, as driving and parking is a headache in Seattle's traffic and there are so many easy alternatives. However, some people have to drive (and it can be very worth it for seeing some of the area's natural delights), and for them, we do have parking spots available behind our building. Parking is not included in the rate; let us know if you would like to reserve a parking pass for an extra $15 per day, available on a first-reserve, first-serve basis (we have a limited number of passes and occasionally run out during peak weekends in the summer; we will let you know when that's the case in advance).

Other things to note

Our building does not have an elevator and this unit is up two flights of stairs.

We expect you to leave the units in good condition when you check out - please wash your own dishes and take out the trash. This helps our cleaners out a lot!
Our building is shared with year-long residents. Please be respectful of their home and leave common areas as clean as you found them, and keep noise to a minimum after 10pm.
The handbook in the unit goes over all of our house rules. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

I loved this apartment for its comfort and location. The best shops and restaurants in this neighborhood and we walked to The Seattle Art Museum, Pike Place Market, and Olympic Sculpture Garden. The apartment was very clean with character and plenty of space. Bryce is an excellent host with great communication skills.

Bryce was just a phone call away. There was always someone in the building in case we needed anything. We are pretty low maintenance. I liked the guest book for suggestions of things to do in the area. The location was great!

The cute little apartment was even better than I expected, and had everything I needed. Bryce made it easy to check in late, and the (paid but reserved) parking behind the building made my life a whole lot easier. I wish I had stayed longer!

We had no face to face contact with Bryce but only because our schedules didn't intersect. He and his super Johnny were extremely flexible and accommodating with both check-in and check-out. Since we arrived earlier than the apartment was ready, we stashed our bags with family and started our sightseeing. However we ended up returning much later that night so Bryce arranged to hold our keys at the bar downstairs. Similarly with check out - we needed a place to stash our bags after checkout since we had a late flight home. Since there were no guests checking in that same day, we were able to keep our bags at the apartment until dinner time. They went above and beyond to be considerate and hospitable.

This is a large, pleasant apartment in convenient location. Light rail is 5-6 blocks away, and there are lots of restaurants and shops (including a grocery store) within two blocks. The Convention Center is long-ish walking distance. It's downhill--you might want to walk there and take a cab or Uber ride back. The bed in the bedroom is comfortable. There were only two of us, so we didn't try the sofa bed in the living room. Check-in and check-out were easy, and Bryce was very responsive to email.

First Christine and then Bryce were very professional in setting up our reservation. Our arrival was smooth and we settled in quickly. We requested a couple more blankets and sheets and they were brought promptly by Johnny the next day. The apartment was very clean and the kitchen contained everything we needed to prepare and eat meals. It was very comfortable and homelike. The shower was wonderful. The A/C unit in the bedroom really helped on a couple of hot evenings. As advertised, the bar across the street can get pretty lively and noisy in the evenings. The neighborhood is a little bit 'seedier' than advertised. The grocery store across the street is very convenient and public transportation is also close by. For the size of the apartment and the quality of the neighborhood, the rental fee seemed high to us. For 4 people it's a little bit of a squeeze, but we managed.

I'm Bryce, the short term rentals manager for St. John's Apartments. I'll be your go-to for all questions on bookings. Johnny Sidorowicz is our live-in manager and he's happy to help you out upon arrival if I'm not at the building.

A little history:
Mark Chambers and Oda Egeland bought St. John's in January 2005. They had always loved the neighborhood and were enchanted by the bones of the building. Built in 1905, it has an old charm missing in newer buildings. Immediately after purchasing it they went to work, remodeling every apartment, putting in new plumbing and electrical, and making it modern in almost all conveniences (no dishwashers nor elevator). Mark did most of the work himself, with help from Johnny. We now have 8 short term apartments and 14 long term apartments. It's a great building. Sadly, Mark passed away away in 2015. Oda still lives in their house in the country, 30 miles from St. John's. Occasionally though, she will stay in the short term rentals when they are available. Mark always loved staying here, Oda still does and we're sure you'll love it too!

A little bit about me: I grew up in Tucson, Arizona, spent most of my summers with family in eastern Massachusetts, lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Vancouver, BC during college, and moved to Seattle in 2014. Soon after moving here Mark and Oda hired me to help Johnny maintain the building. When the former short term rentals manager, Christine, left for graduate school I was lucky enough to get to take over the position! She and I wrote the neighborhood guide in the guest handbook in each unit, so you can also read about some of my favorite spots in there!
