About this listing

Nestled into the side of Cheddar Gorge, underneath a canopy of Scots Pines, with panoramic views of Glastonbury Tor and the Somerset Levels - a unique place to stay. Lovely and sunny in the Summer months;a log burning stove for cosy Winters.

The space

Staying here, you will be surrounded by nature in a haven of peace and tranquility – it is easy to relax and forget the world if you want to.

But if you want to explore the local area, you are just a short walk from some of the most spectacular scenery in England, quality restaurants, quaint countryside pubs, craft and gift shops, bars and of course the world famous Cheddar Gorge & Caves.

The property is tastefully decorated with the emphasis on comfort and quality - we know the key to a relaxing holiday is peace, quiet and a great night's sleep so only the dawn chorus will disturb you each morning.

Guest access

You will have access to the whole property which is set up for up to 4 adults and 2 children. Cheddar Holiday Cottage is a converted barn with accommodation all on one level. There are 3 bedrooms - two spacious doubles and a room for the kids with bunks.

This spacious retreat also has ample outdoor space with an area of garden exclusively for guests to use at the front and side of the property. Please note that the property is set into the Mendip hills which form a steep and rugged limestone landscape: consequently the garden is quite steep and can be slippery.

When you return from your outdoor adventures, there is also a laundry room with washing machine, dryer and space for your muddy boots!

Interaction with guests

Whether you want to escape for a few days or thoroughly explore everything that Somerset has to offer, you are assured of a warm welcome from your hosts, Vanessa and Jerry who have lovingly refurbished the Cottage to a high standard. We can provide recommendations for great places to eat in the local area and suggestions for events and activities to keep you occupied whatever the weather. We are very sorry but are unable to accommodate Dogs. We can suggest walks for all levels of fitness which will help you really explore and get to know the beautiful countryside like a local.

Other things to note

The cottage is situated at the top of a steep drive and although there is ample level car-parking at the top, there are four or five steps up to the front door. Whilst we would love everyone to be able to enjoy this very special property and the stunning scenery around it, realistically it would not be easy for anyone with a mobility disability. Please contact us if you have any specific queries.

Fantastic hosts. Beautiful location and excellent property. Fully equip for all your needs. Great welcome gifts upon awaiting your sampling. Really nice touch. I'd highly recommend staying at Vanessa and Jerry's place. Lovely location with superb views. You can get to the Cliff Top Walk from their property too without purchasing a ticket as connected to there grounds. We purchased a ticket for £19.50 each to do the Gough's Cave, Dreamhunters Cave, Jacob's Ladder and the Look out Tower, Cliff Top Walk, Open Bus Tour and Museum of Prehistory. We only managed Jacob's Ladder and the Look out Tower, Look out Tower and Cliff Top Walk but have up to 10 years to go back and do the others. We will certainly be back :-) It's also worth sampling the Cheddar. After all that's what the area is famous for!

Fantastic location, so close to amazing walks and stunning views, yet conveniently situated to be able to walk to the local shops, cafes etc. Vanessa & Jerry are wonderful hosts. Lots of little touches and extras that made their house our home for a few days. More than enough seating in the lounge, lovely comfortable beds, great shower and everything we needed in the kitchen. Would defiantly recommend this well equipped, spacious holiday home. Thank you Vanessa and Jerry it was lovely to meet you both and we had a fab time.

We had a fabulous stay at this beautiful house in Cheddar. It is really well kitted out and perfectly located to explore Cheddar town and Gorge. We stayed with my three young children and my parents in law and the house was ideal. Vanessa and Jerry were brilliant hosts and made the place feel very welcoming. Jerry even lit a camp-fire for us in their field which our sons really enjoyed toasting marshmallows over. We would definitely recommend to others. Many thanks.

We loved the house and our extended family had a great three days with 2 small children. In fact we rather wished the stay had been longer. Just the right location close to the town but away from the traffic. The views are magnificent and its perfect for walks around the gorge. Gerry and Vanessa could not have been more welcoming and we really appreciated the cake waiting for us.

The property definitely exceeded our expectations. We were made to feel very welcome. We were left a fantastic array of local produce to help us get into the holiday mood, even vegan cake for our daughter. A really lovely touch. The property has a fantastic garden perfect for children and adults alike. It has amazing views and beautiful walks from the back garden. Amenities are close by and also the tourists attractions. Our family are all dog lovers so we enjoyed having Brian around! Vanessa and Jeremy were the perfect hosts. We were left to our own devices but they were also there if we needed anything. On our last night we used their lovely outside eating area and BBQ equipment. We definitely recommend staying here and hope to return one day. Thank you Vanessa and Jeremy for making our stay welcoming, comfortable and memorable.

We had a wonderful stay with our two young children and grandparents. Vanessa and Jerry were very welcoming, greeted us upon arrival and showed us around the property. After a long drive from London, we were happy to find refreshments and selected local produce waiting for us on the kitchen table. The bungalow is well equipped with very spacious rooms, very comfortable and has a warm, home-like feel to it. We’d love to come back when the weather is colder and try out the wood burner in the lounge. Everyone in our party, young and old thoroughly enjoyed their stay here. The property is accessed by a steep road, we arrived in two big cars and there was plenty of space for parking. The views at the front are stunning and there’s a large, private garden at the back which has immediate access to a path leading to the Lookout Tower and Jacobs Ladder which takes you right to the start of Cheddar Gorge. Excellent for exploring Cheddar Gorge, Cheddar Village and surrounding areas. We highly recommended this place and already done so with our friends.

We have lived in Cheddar (in the house next door to the holiday cottage) for over 12 years and we love it here. We are relaxed and enjoy meeting new people and being able to recommend walks around the beautiful local countryside.
