About this listing
Chic, stylish home in the center of German Village, the most historic & renowned neighborhood in Columbus. Friendly, world traveling hosts. Walking distance to many cafes, restaurants & shops.
Just 5-10 minutes drive to downtown, 15 to airport.
We live tucked away on an historic brick street and our home has the character to reflect it. We have added some modern touches while keeping it very cozy feeling.
The house features hard wood floors, an easy to use gas fireplace, an equally easy to use upstairs electric fireplace in the main bedroom, all obvious kitchen appliances, a coffee bar - featuring free, unlimited use of espresso machine, coffee maker, French press and cappuccino maker (grounds, syrups, supplies included!). Our house also features an upstairs large head shower with good pressure as well as a half bath downstairs for convenience. We have a small but charming kitchen space for our guests to use for dining, cooking or even just hanging out on their laptop or tablet. Lastly, we have a front room with pocket doors and stain glassed windows if you enjoy quiet time in a comfy chair next to a fireplace.
We have excellent WiFi, a loaded cable package, an Xbox 360 & offer use of our Hulu, Netflix & Amazon.
We have on street parking. For those in town without a vehicle, our house is less than 5 minutes walk to multiple restaurants (including Thurman Cafe & Schimdt's - both local legends featured on Man vs. Food), a nice grocery store, Starbucks and other cafes, charming local shops and more.
Our location is perfect for access to everything in the heart of the city while still being able to step away from the noise and clutter for a good night's sleep. We are 5-10 minutes drive from the convention center, Nationwide Arena, all downtown activities and hundreds of hip restaurants & cafes. We are 15 minutes from the airport, the Horseshoe, Easton Shopping Center (a top 10 indoor/outdoor mall in the U.S.) and more. We are 20 minutes from the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium as well as Polaris Fashion Place.
We are a 1-minute car ride or 10-minute walk to the closest gym - rated the #1 gym in Columbus this year.
Guests will have access to the entire house (including their main bedroom) minus the other two upstairs bedrooms. This also includes our backyard (the hammock) during warm months and our porch.
Guests will be given a key at the beginning of their stay and have easy access to come and go as they like. They will also be given the four-digit alarm code which is incredible user friendly.
Interaction with guests
We like to think we're as friendly as they come. We take a lot of pride in our hospitality and in our wonderful city! We're easy to be around and when guests are in our home - we are more than happy to tell them all about Columbus, what to do, where to go, what to avoid, etc. We're pretty in touch with what's going on so we'll do our best to make sure you have a great stay in our capital city!
Also - when possible, we'll give the occasional free ride (when headed that way or nearby), can sometimes arrange airport pickup for less than an cab or Uber (just ask!), will always give best directions and if the timing is right, our guests can accompany us to our world class gym as guests, for free.
We are big coffee and espresso drinkers so if we're awake and around together, we'll either be making some for ourselves or won't mind making some for our welcomed guests. We have plenty of options and every kind of sweetener under the sun. :)
Guests will have easy access to the house and be provided with both of our cell phone numbers in case of emergency, needed local advice or any other inquiries.
Laundry is available at no extra charge if requested.
German Village is the most renowned and historic neighborhood in all of Columbus and its suburbs. It is a very active and charming community with its local cafes, eateries and small storefronts. German Village is nice because it's right next to the buzz of downtown but still tucked away for a touch of peace.
If you'd like to know more about German Village, there is tons of online material regarding its character, history and local hot spots.
Uber is always a great and very affordable option in Columbus and the taxi service in town is strong. If you need to hit the grocery store or just want to have a good cup of coffee, you won't have to walk more than a few blocks in any direction. If you enjoy getting the feel of a city by navigating the bus lines, we are 3 blocks from a prominent stop.
Other things to note
We do have a small wiener dog and a cat. The cat (Dicky) hides from all strangers but is playful and cuddly when cruising around. The dog (Gussie) is super friendly and comparable to a sweet, little old man who just likes to be around people. Both are completely harmless and we take pride that our home is not covered in pet hair, rather, it would appear none live there at all. :)
Due to the historic age of our house, there are not locks on any of the internal doors. We have maintained the original crystal doorknobs from 1912, so there are no locking mechanisms. Some people aren't always comfortable with this but we have no issue with it as we've had company many times without a snag.
We are very busy people so our dates offered are very limited. If we don't offer a date you desire, feel free to message us and we might be free to have guests!
We're pretty laid back & easy going so we don't have many rules. Only a few things to note.
No smoking or drug use (obviously!).
If you're going to use the kitchen or dishes, please just leave them in the sink.
As we both wake around 4:30-5:30 for our sometimes weekend jobs, we ask that our guests politely keep the volume level to a roar. The TV, living area and sitting room are all downstairs so this shouldn't be too much trouble.
Lastly, please just respect our old, classic home. She's got a few miles on her but we've put a lot of love into the upkeep and character within so we kindly ask that you'd treat it as your own. :)
My name is Steven and I am a passionate traveler currently residing in fantastic Columbus, Ohio. My loves include my beautiful wife, cartography, photography, animals, Little Caeser's Pizza (yikes!) and spending loads of time with my incredible family. I'm a super friendly guy who is basically trying to see the world one country at a time. I sincerely hope to meet so many unique & kind folks from different cultures along my way - as a guest and host. I am excited for all of the opportunities AirBNB has for the traveling bug inside of me and those with whom I cross paths. :)
I couldn't live without my dachshund Gussie, my faith, my Nikon, college football, a great gym &/or Spotify.
