The space

It is a self contained room with its own bathroom, backdoor leading into a garden, storage units and ample space to throw your yoga mats as well. The room is on the ground floor with a nice quiet garden around it.

The house itself is inside a gated community with 24 hours security. It is in the corner away from the more noisier part of the community. There is 24 hours running water (unless there's some emergency - pipe burst, municipality cuts down water supply, etc.).

Guest access

Guests have access to the kitchen (and if they are familiar with the Indian gas stoves, they are welcome to cook). There is a small drawing room / library with a television and multi-format DVD & USB player. The second floor is a covered terrace (see photos) and guests can access that.

Interaction with guests

I respect my guests' privacy and the room is designed for that. However, it is a big house with lots of spaces for open discussions and guests are more than welcome to join in.

The neighbourhood

Chembur is in the north east of Mumbai. Once an open, forest covered suburb, it is now a very urbanised neighbourhood. Recent city developments have made it the most accessible suburb in the city with expressways and metro / monorail services connecting it with different parts of the city. The airport is now just 20 (30 minutes for the international terminal) minutes away while the UNESCO World Heritage Site VT Station (now called Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus) is, on account of a new high-speed elevated expressway, just 15 minutes away. There are pubs, cinema halls, international chain coffee shops, pizza delivery joints, Subway, McDonald's and KFC.

Getting around

All modes of transport (barring boats and planes) ply to and from Chembur. Specific instructions on getting to my place from airport / railway station / bus stand will be mailed to the guest on the confirmation of the bookings.

Other things to note

There is wi-fi in the house (but occasionally the phone company which provides the service does go off the air).

House Rules

There are no major house rules.
- Smoking can be done in the garden.
- Guests can bring in alcohol for their own consumption. However, they will have be conscious of their own behaviour as the house is inside a gated community and I don't want to be excommunicated by the neighbours for any unruly behaviour.
- The room will be cleaned everyday. However, my staff are very hesitant to enter the room when guests are in the room.
- Please do inform when borrowing books / music / video discs from the library. While they are there in the library for consumption, I am a little possessive about them and would like to make sure they do not become extra baggage for the guests.
