Black Mountain Farm overlooks the Nicasio reservoir and the rolling hills of West Marin County. We have a cozy little off-the-grid "cottage" next to our pond with a bed, solar lights and incredible views. A perfect spot for artists, bikers, hikers and birders to come and enjoy a completely unplugged (no electricity/no heat) vacation. Its like Glamping in a wooden tent! It's Spring and there are lambs, baby rabbits and chicks! Come out to the Country for a technology cleanse!

The space

Black Mountain Farm is a family fiber farm with views for miles of the rolling hills of West Marin and the Nicasio reservoir. We are only an hour north of the Golden Gate Bridge but far-removed from city life. Fresh air, peacefulness, wide open spaces. There is a privacy gate please read directions on how to open it. Sheep, horses, chickens, turkeys and wildlife roam happily on our property. The Point Reyes National Seashore and Tomales Bay are only minutes away.

Guest access

The pond cottage sleeps two people. It is far from the main house with plenty of privacy. There is a privacy gate please read how to enter the property before coming as there is no cell reception. Guests can enjoy the grassy three-acre area around the pond which is also great for outdoor games and just hanging out. A fire pit is available for use during WINTER months; you can purchase wood from the Jacksons, conditions permitting. We provide fresh bottled drinking water and there is an outhouse with a composting toilet. The outdoor bath tub/shower is run with a portable propane gas water heater so in the Winter months there is less warm water; you may need to miss your daily bathing and enjoy knowing that you are part of water conservation on the Farm -:). The cabin is insulated but has no heat so bring extra sleeping bags if you get cold easily. Boots are a must in winter with all the mud on the farm!

Interaction with guests

Depending on schedules, we try to greet guests on their arrival, and we are glad to offer suggestions on the many activities and places to visit nearby. There is a privacy gate please read how to open it before you come as there is no cell reception. We will leave a binder in the pondhouse with attractions and suggestions for dining nearby. Please let us know if you want privacy and we won't bother you at all.

Other things to note

As is common throughout the Bay Area, weather can be variable…foggy usually in the morning and brilliant sunshine later in the day. We have a farm dog that roams the property guarding the sheep and chickens. She is friendly and her name is Ruby. There is a privacy gate on the driveway. The remote control to open the gate is in a wooden box on the support post. Please remember this as there is no cell reception to check your phone.

We enjoy the peace and quiet of living in the country. No smoking as it is extreme fire danger in the country. No amplified music or unruley behavior. Guests my not bother or harrass our farm animals. We love dogs but no guests can bring dogs as our farm animals are afraid of strange dogs. Feel free to use water but use it sparingly as their is a limited amount.

A very unique rustic experience in a lovely setting with a panoramic view. Very private, loved the company of the sheep and Ruby the dog. The pond was very refreshing for a dip on a couple of hot days. The farm fresh eggs were also very tasty. We had a lot of fun!

Peaceful, quite, and very relaxing. The scenery is amazing, just what we had in mind. The location is also very convenient to where we wanted to hike. Marnie was very nice and helpful. Highly recommend it.

Beautiful setting which is elevated by being in close proximity to the farm animals!

What a lovely place to unwind and unplug! If the current political and social goings-on bring about the apocalypse, I want to come here because going without electricity or indoor plumbing is not a hardship in this well thought out spot. The cabin has a desk from which you can stare at Nicasio Reservoir, plenty of water in a dispenser for your use, and a fluffy warm down comforter. I appreciated the daily use of the Coleman stove and propane grill, the dishwashing tub, and the candles in the cabin for evening light (there are LED lights too for those inclined to using those instead). The daily rhythms of sheep grazing, hawks circling above, and other wildlife sightings makes one appreciate life outside the hustle of a city. And the pond is a delight to swim in after a dusty hike. Marnie, the host, was communicative and kind and had many thoughtful touches to make us feel welcome, such as chocolate, soap and shampoo. She was out of town during our stay but let us know ahead of time and we just barely missed meeting her. I look forward to my next stay and hope to meet her then!

We spent a blissfull weekend in Marnie's pond house. The experience far surpassed any of our AirBnb stays in the past. Marnie, a generous and considerate host, shared a special spot on her hilltop farm with us. The View was to die for, the setup was simple but solid and reminded us of the virtues of keeping things simple. Also, there are free roaming sheep and and a couple of mellow toads chatting on the banks of the pond in the evenings. And then there is Ruby the farm dog who is the best farm dog. Period. At least in our opinion...

If you need to unplug for a few days (face the truth, we ALL need to unplug!), then this is the place. It is so quiet and peaceful and I could literally sit and watch the trees for hours. Quiet, cozy, expansive views. I love, love, love this spot and can't wait to return! Restaurants and shops are a short drive, along with some of the most beautiful hikes in the world. Highly recommended!

I am a Fiber Farmer. I raise sheep and Angora rabbits and use their fiber to create clothes. I am also a Mom of two beautiful and very active, busy kids. I enjoy tending my animals growing; veggies, fruit, eggs and meat from my farm for my family. I grew up in Italy and began to learn about how a farm can sustain us both physically and emotionally. I have lived in 3 countries and 4 states; no matter where I go I always seek out beautiful water vistas and farm land. I have always wanted folks to see the magic that see experience every day here on Black Mountain Farm. Check out my wix.com web for what is currently happening on the Farm.
