Gisela and Michael Burkhardt are the perfect hosts; they're gracious, thoughtful, and have a wonderful sense of humor. We felt that they always tried to find ways to make our stay even more enjoyable. Their home is actually a boutique hotel that's steeped in history. In the 16th century, it was a winery and home designed in the Baroque style. If you want to research their home, just type in "Barock Landhof Burkhardt". It's been in Michael's family for seven generations. They've beautifully restored everything and done a recent remodel in 2012, even adding an elevator! The grounds are wonderful: an ancient pear orchard, and cherry, walnut and apple trees. Vineyards on steep hills rise behind them and you're less than a five minute walk to the shores of the Danube. You'll walk on a peaceful gravel walkway past apricot orchards. Our room had a separate sitting room and kitchenette and great big comfortable bed in our bedroom. Our stay there was quiet, peaceful and really relaxing. Michael and Gisela really know Spitz and and they can tell you all you need to know about getting around, what to see, where to eat, wineries etc. For example, a local family-owned winery that's not open often was one of the wineries offering a special 'appetizers and wine' experience and Gisela suggested that we walk uphill to their winery. We sat at a picnic table high on a hill surrounded by vineyards while we were served a huge portion of local chacuterie and cheeses with fresh bread and excellent wine for a very reasonable price. We rented bikes from Nextbike (they have a stand on the Danube close by) for one euro/hour and rode along the Danube. Another day, we went to the annual apricot festival (each July) in nearby Krems. The week after we left, Spitz had their own festival. We also had a fantastic dinner at the Restaurant Prankl, also recommended by Gisela. Spitz is a wonderful non-touristy town in a beautiful part of the world and Gisela & Michael's home is the perfect place to stay!

Hello, I am Gisela (59)! My husband Michael and I are originally from Germany, but we have spent over 15 years living abroad. Together, we run our little 11-room BnB in Spitz an der Donau.
In our freetime, we love outdoor sports, reading, chatting with our guests and enjoying local specialties.
It is my first time on AirBnB and thus I look forward to meeting new people from all around the world. Feel free to ask me any question you might have!

Hope to see you soon!
