Having driven around the whole of Mainland Orkney I cannot think of a location I would rather stay in. The view of Hoy and the sound between it and the Mainland is fabulous. The weather changes constantly and with it, the water too. Watching all the dive boats make their way from Stromness to Scapa Flow is lovely. Aside from the cows in the fields surrounding the chalets, there is a plethora of wildlife - birds (many varieties), hares, rabbits, stoats etc. which can be seen from the comfort of an armchair. In the week we spent there not a single airplane flew overhead. For someone who lives in a busy flight path area for a major airport that was a real treat - total peace and quiet! The chalet was nicely appointed and Kathy was kind enough to lend us a fan (my wife likes to sleep with a fan). The bed was comfortable (if a little on the firm side - we're used to a memory foam bed) so we used the duvet (which wasn't needed since it wasn't cold) as a mattress topper and that made the bed more comfortable. All in all it was a perfect location for touring the island(s). 15 minutes to Stromness, 30 minutes to Kirkwall and 10 minutes to the ferry for Hoy (which is not to be missed!).

Everything you ould possibly need in a holiday house was provided, check in wasn't a problem, even though we didn't arrive until nearly midnight, off the Aberdeen ferry. We were greeted by a complimentary bottle of wine, pack of fudge and bag of real coffee. Beautiful views and convenient location for all th main archeological sites on Mainland Orkney

Response from Kathy:
Although I usually like to personally greet arriving guests I had to make an exception for your very late arrival. Not a problem though, as we agreed I would leave the chalet unlocked for you. I checked to make sure you were O.K. the next morning. Glad you enjoyed your holiday at Buxa and hope that you come back!
