Philippe’s apartment is spacious, modern and clean. The interior looks brand-new. There are two floors, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (with shower). The kitchen is well equipped although the cutlery and utensils are a bit flimsy. We were welcomed by a friend from Philippe, Rui and his wife (didn’t catch her name) who were very friendly and helpful. They provided us with a generous welcome pack with flowers, local wine and port (much appreciated!).
The furniture is good and we slept very well. There is a constant rustling from the Atlantic Ocean on the background which is very relaxing. The surroundings of the apartment are relatively quiet, no clubs or loud public nearby. Unless Portugal happens to win the European Championship, which occurred during our stay… :-)
Foz do Arelho is a neat little seaside resort with a few restaurants and beach bars. From the apartment you walk down-hill to the beach in approx 5 mins. There are no supermarkets or shops on walking distance so a car is recommended. Don’t expect a wild night-life here, this place is more suitable for families and couples. In the weekend it can get quite busy with parking so we were happy with our private parking spot beside the apartment building. There are sandy beaches at the ocean side and at the bay-side so you can choose between strong waves and calm water. From Foz do Arelho you can visit Lisbon and Ericeira (one-hour driving). Closer by are Peniche, Obidos and Martinho do Porto.
We thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks here.
