SECLUDED HIDEAWAY IN THE HEART OF OIA

Those romantic bioclimatic houses, the PINK and BLUE Cave Houses are built into the volcanic rock of Santorini. They are almost next door. Situated in the village of Oia, they are the ideal accommodation for an enjoyable vacation of tranquility and recreation. The sculpted rock architecture of the cave houses is unique and it has been beautifully decorated with inspiration and care by their owner, Maria Economou, a Greek sculptor and painter.

They are 40 steps away from the main road and 1-2 min walking distance from shops, restaurants, galleries, bus & taxi terminal. They are 5 min walk from the Cafe Bar Swimming Pool 'LIOYERMA' and 5 min drive from the sea.

1)The PINK CAVE HOUSE: has 3 bedrooms with traditional style built in or wooden double beds. One bedroom has a separate entrance from the rest of the house and it is on a different level. There are also a big living room, a separate kitchen, a bathroom and a large patio in three levels overlooking the Caldera, the volcano and the little island with the tiny St Nicolas’ sparkling white church. There is a fully equipped kitchen, a private shower-room and a veranda with panoramic view to the Caldera.
An outdoor hot tub, facing the blue sea and the Caldera, installed in the PINK Cave's garden will offer you the relaxation you are asking for! There is also a private outdoor shower surrounded by plants and flowers!

After a day of exploring the island, lounge on the cushions & pillows of the living/dining room and sip VINSANTO, the famous red sweet local wine, to re-energize yourself! The wine, presented in an oak barrel, is homemade by an old islander from his grape vineyards in Oia. The wine is made and offered to you with love! Candles and a selection of music are also available to complement this romantic setting. We hope the cozy ambiance will add to your cave dwelling experience. Just enjoy!!!

2) "BLUE & WHITE" Cave House

As you gaze at the deep blue waters of the Caldera you feel the calm breeze touch your heart and soul in a unique way. You certainly get a bird’s eye feeling over watching the cruise boats as they sneak from the cape and follow the sun all the way from sunrise to sunset.

Unlike most cave houses in Santorini, once you enter the "Blue & White House" you are surprised by the soaring heights of the curved ceiling. Spacey, roomy, well-lit, the house maintains a constant temperature throughout the year, providing a refreshing, cool welcome after a long day under the demanding Greek sun. Inside, the white color prevails almost everywhere. It will make you feel refreshed, calm and pure. The unique architecture of the cave house meets with art objects and airy furniture to please the senses.

There is one master bedroom with a with a traditional double bed. In the living area there are two traditional style built in twin beds for lounging or extra guests. The master bedroom is separated from the living area by a doorway and 3 small windows. The living room also provides a dining table and an extra long sofa for relaxing. There is additionally a small adjacent room to the master bedroom with a single bed. There is an indoor tiled bathroom with a shower and a second outdoor bathroom. The fully equipped kitchen faces the beautiful Aegean sea.

Outside, the spacious private terrace provides the stage for unencumbered relaxation staring the amazing landscape of the caldera. Your eyes feast on the view producing numberless private mental postcards.

Staying in the PINK and BLUE Cave Houses you will enjoy your breakfast/dinner at the romantic private veranda with panoramic view of the cities of Imerovigli, Firostefani, Fira and “Athinios” port on the edge of the Caldera, the volcano and the islands of Palia and Nea Kammeni.

Every now and then, tourists with their cameras in hand, slowly, quietly and respectfully glide down the steps passing in front of the porch of the house as if visiting a church. While they seek vantage points for their picture framing, you can distinguish their admiration for these two Cave houses when they smile and then turn to ponder the view.

Beaches
There are many exotic places to go swimming, sandy or with volcanic rocks, all over the island. One could go to Ammoudi, a very picturesque beach near Oia by going down a number of steps but the few little picturesque taverns compensate you.
If you hire a motorbike or a car, there are three beaches 5-10 minutes’ drive from home.

Interaction with guests

Before arriving to Santorini important information about places of interest, picturesque little restaurants and bars will be emailed to you. Upon arrival we will meet you to give you any more info you need.

The neighbourhood

Oia, the Village of the fascinating sunsets

Oia, the traditional, most charming and well preserved of all of the Santorini villages, is located on the northern top of the island, high on a cliff-top (caldera edge) 12 km from the main town of Fira.

It is famous as the place with the most magnificent view of Santorini with a picturesque road, cliffs on one side and the sea on the other. The old ruined castle overlooking the Caldera attracts most of the visitors to enjoy the unique and idyllic sunsets.

The main square overlooks the sea and visitors are tempted with another truly fascinating viewpoint. Below is the beach of Ammoudi and across the bay are the Burnt Islands. Ammoudi, accessible by car as well, is 214 steps below, and Armeni beach is 286 steps below.

The architecture of Oia is typical Cycladic with houses dug deep into the volcanic soil and whitewashed churches with blue domes sparkling in the sunlight. Oia today also hosts a cultural center, a central art gallery and many other Greek art galleries.

Many shops sell handicrafts, souvenirs and jewellery.

It is also home to artists and writers from all around the world, who are drawn to its aura of serenity and beauty you will therefore find countless art galleries offering the creations of its inspired inhabitants.

Getting around

There is convenient public transportation.
It is easy to learn and feel comfortable using the public bus. They run every half an hour during summer. It should be noted thought that busses stop at midnight (except from the weekends in the busiest summer months), so visitors should plan their return accordingly. During winter the bus does not run very often during the day.
The cost of taxi fare from the airport to Oia is about the cost of a rental car for one day. Rental cars give you the flexibility to explore the island on your schedule, not on a bus schedule. There is public free parking 2-3 min walking distance from the house.

Other things to note

Please note that the use of hot tub is at extra charge from November 1 to March 30. Guests who wish to use the outdoor hot tub must let us know in advance. MHTE:

This year I turned 50. I decided that the momentous occasion should take place on Santorini. Maria's beautifully appointed Pink and Blue cave houses where the perfect backdrop for me and my 4 friends to start our Greek odyssey, steps from the beautiful town of Oia. My original plan was to eat Greek food, go to museums and enjoy the view. Maria thought that with such an important occasion, I should have a more unique experience. I agreed. Day One: Arrived in Santorini and was greeted by her staff and lead to our homes. After a light lunch enjoying wine and the view, Maria coordinated a photo shoot for me and my friends with the beautiful backdrop of the famous Santorini caldera. After which, our personal photographer followed us to a sunset dinner enjoying delicious fresh fish and seafood. Maria ordered my birthday cake which created with 10 slices of different flavored cakes. Wonderful!! The photos of my birthday with friends, are beautiful and unforgettable! Day Two: After enjoying brunch overlooking the caldera, we drove to Akkuteri's accent ruins to take in some history. Afterwards, Maria coordinated seaside massages for me and my friends as we enjoyed the day at the beach on our reserved sun beds while enjoying cocktails, sun, food and music. (Amazing) We drove back to town just in time to enjoy a world famous sunset that Oia is known for and dinner at a local 5 star restaurant. I was in Santorini for only 2 days and Maria had so many more options that I would have loved to experience. Maria worked to make my 50th birthday for me and my friends an unforgettable one. I am forever thankful!

Maria was fantastic. We arrived early am but she was able to accommodate our bags in one of the two houses so we could explore Oia. She also invited us to her home to view a sunset which was a amazing experience. She is a great host. Places in Greece tend to be expensive and small but the pink and blue caves are as big as it gets. Very comfortable and great views and service.

Maria was very welcoming when we arrived and showed us all around the 2 villas. Neither one looked in person nearly as nice as they did on the website. We very much appreciated her helping us out when one of us was bitten by a dog in a dress shop. She also was great about getting someone to help us with our luggage and putting us in touch with a transportation company to get us from and back to the airport. She also gave us some recommendations about some things to do and restaurants.

Maria made our experience in Santorini. She took time to sit with us and give us all the insider tips of the island and all of her recommendations were fabulous. Additionally, staying in a cave house was a wonderful experience in itself and the location was perfection.
