About this listing
A spacious, light and airy double room, (can be used as a single) with king size bed situated in a quiet cul de sac, at the foot of Chalice Hill, Shamanka is a beautiful, tranquil space, only 5 minutes walk from the High Street and all amenities. We have off street parking, and we are in a very quiet residential neighbourhood. Although the High Street is near by, we are also close to open fields, and within easy walking distance of Chalice Well and the Tor.
Tranquility, warmth and peacefulness have all been words used to describe the ambience of Shamanka. The house is semi detached with a large garden both front and rear. Where the house now stands, an old farm, dating back to Anglo Saxon times, stood until 1927. The floor of the old still room is still in evidence, and the gardens are littered with pieces of Abbey stone, which had been used in the construction of the old farm buildings. The house is TV free, all products used are environmentally friendly and cruelty free. Wi-fi access is available and tea and coffee making facilities are available in all rooms.
We have one double room which is light and airy with views over the town and out to the Somerset Levels in the distance, and also over Dod Lane. We also have a twin room with views over the rear garden. There is a shared bathroom which is kept spotlessly clean, along with a separate WC, and a downstairs cloakroom. Breakfast is served in the main sitting room, which on cold mornings has an open fire. Guests also have access to a large and private rear garden, where it is possible to sit in the shade of a huge and magnificent, ancient apple tree. (Please see separate listing for the twin room)
Interaction with guests
I have lived in Glastonbury for over twenty years and know both the town and the surrounding area intimately. I am more than happy to provide information and suggestions that will enhance time spent within this very beautiful and sacred place
Dod Lane is one of the most sought after residential areas in Glastonbury. A number of ley lines are said to run along here, including one which runs to Stonehenge. Shekinashram is further along the lane, providing early morning meditation, yoga, healing, and on Friday evening, Bhajans. Just passed the Ashram are open fields, with seating, and beautiful views over the town and the Somerset Levels.
We have off street parking on a spacious drive at the front of the house. The bus stop, with buses arriving from Bristol, is only a five minute walk away.
Other things to note
Charlie the cat also lives here............. so for those with severe allergies this may not be appropriate
Bookings for one night are only taken for two people sharing, or the price of. Two nights minimum booking is required for single occupancy.

My intention with Shamanka is to provide a warm safe space, where people can relax and find tranquility. Glastonbury has traditionally been a place of healing and at times can be a little intense. Having a safe space to retire to can be incredibly helpful. I have been involved in alternative spirituality for over thirty years, a vegetarian for 40 years and have also been involved in environmental issues for equally as long. Shamanka has been, and at times still is, a family home, a place of healing, and place of teaching........ it is also a place where both family and friends have had many celebrations and has always provided a warm welcome to those who enter. Eleanor Roosevelt once said 'The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams'. At Shamanka I offer the space for you to dream.........
