This house is located right below Japanese alps, where you can enjoy outdoor in mountains, rivers and lakes throughout four seasons. We moved to this area from Tokyo because this area is not commercialized, but intact from urbanization. So if you are looking for something different than usual sightseeing, here could be the place to visit. This house used to be a ski ryokan, and we renovated it by ourselves with abandoned and local materials to maintain nice and old Japanese architectural taste.

The space

Japanese traditional houses usually have less isolation and smaller rooms, but in order to solve the problems, this house was designed by a young prized architect and renovated by ourselves. Please come and see how it changed.

To make a big place where people can gather, we combined 4 rooms into one, placing a big wood stove in the center, so that guests can gather there to relax. Private room is Japanese tatami room, but we have prepared 15cm thick mattress so that everyone can sleep comfortably without hurting your back.

Guest access

You will have your own private room. You can also use shared kitchen, two toilets and shower. We also have huge living room as in the pictures, so please feel free to use it, too.

Interaction with guests

We moved to here from Tokyo after working in the big city more than 10 years to spend more relaxing time. We are a married couple with one baby boy, and are very quiet and calm people. We love DIY, cooking and sharing experience with guests.

Other things to note

Japanese traditional houses are less isolated than western ones, but we renovated living space with very thick isolation. So you can spend with T-shirt and half pants in kitchen space. But you might feel cold in private rooms, so we placed oil heating in each room as well as hot water heating pad in your bed, which you might feel too hot.

From picking us up at the train station, to driving us to the local supermarket, to lending us their bicycles and showing us the way to the nearest lake to a fantastic BBQ dinner inclusive of a wonderful sunset and a view to match Chie and her partner did everything to help us and make us feel welcome. I cannot recommend them highly enough! Our whole family absolutely love staying with them. Oh and did I mention they brought us to the bus station the next day to take the Kurove-Tateyama Alpine route. All just perfect!

An absolutely amazing 4 days! I can't believe we ever thought about getting a normal hotel. The food was amazing, the room and beds were extremely comfortable, Chie and Hayashi are fantastic hosts, and talking with the other guests over dinner each evening was always exciting. Cannot recommend this place strongly enough!

This is the perfect place to stay in Omachi. The location is very quiet, but it's also near the train station and a couple of convenience stores. Chie and her husband were superb hosts. happy to share their great local knowledge and answer any questions. The dinners (which are JPY2,000 per couple per night) were amazing - very fresh and healthy. Definitely worth the money. I would gladly stay here again - walking outside in the morning and seeing the Japanese Alps in the distance can't be beat.

Great place to stay. Chie and her husband go out of their way to help you out. They made sure that we have a good time on our holiday by recommending the right activities to do. I recommend having dinner at their house too as it was delicious. As her husband was dropping us to the station, my wife dropped our phone in the drain. He went out of his way to help us get our phone out, which included climbing into the drain to fetch the phone. That was the extremely nice of him. Bottom Line: We could not have asked for better hosts. Highly Recommend.

If I could rate this 10 stars I would! Chie was incredibly helpful in our arrival and departure to/from Omachi, even despite our mistakenly reading train time tables and arriving two hours later than we had planned. We had an amazing dinner with two other couples that was delicious and devine. To top it off, we woke up at 5:30 am to a beautiful rainbow outside our room. We came to this location because we wanted to do the Alpine Route the next day and Chie was incredibly helpful by driving us directly to the first stop, Ogizawa. Chie even took our luggage and forwarded it to Toyama for us. By doing all of these things for us, he saved us a lot of time and confusion. Everything was perfect.

Cannot recommend Chie's place enough. Was one of the highlights of our time in Japan. The area has beautiful hiking, temple, onsen and is very far from most tourist hot spots. Chie and her husband cooked us dinner and let us ride their bikes. Definitely will visit again in the future.

Hi, we moved to this place from Tokyo after working in the big city more than 10 years to pursuit relaxing life. I used to work at real estate company and my husband used to work at financial industry. We both love nature, outdoor, art, and architecture. We renovate this house by ourselves. We study farming, natural dyeing, climbing and so on. If you are interested in Japanese rural living or want to relax in a quiet area, please visit us:)
