Traditional Period Cottage on cattle farm with wonderful, panoramic seaviews in SW SCOTLAND Dumfries & Galloway -voted Britain's Holiday Destination 2016 by CountryFile readers. Experience the true RURAL IDYLL, less than 2hrs from Carlisle!

The space
A traditional Period Cottage with magnificent sea views, MORRACH COTTAGE sl.8+cot (on RIGHT of PIC1) offers the perfect base from which to explore the beautiful, unspoilt SW Scottish peninsula. With great sandy beaches bathed by the Gulf Stream, beautiful flora and fauna, dark skies at night, MORRACH Cottage is also conveniently close (1 mile) to the award winning SteamPacket Inn, popular for its choice of ales & good pub grub. Travel writer D. Wills described this area as "an overlooked corner [of Scotland] whose time has come."
So, keep right on trend! Come and discover the southerly tip of the Scottish peninsula before everybody else does ... and prepare to be amazed!

Guest access
The whole of MORRACH Cottage sl.8 + cot (on RIGHT of Pic1) is yours to enjoy, as well as the right section of the large landscaped garden, separated by a tall hedge from the garden next door.
You'll find wooden tables & benches on the sunny terrace at the front of the house, the better for you to enjoy the sea views over a cup of coffee or glass of wine. Let the children pick the raspberries and redcurrants in the garden (before the birds do!) or try rock-fishing only 200 yards across from the cottage. Enjoy the picturesque coastal walk with your dog (NB: dog supplement is £30 per dog/wk) but remember to take your binoculars, because organic Morrach Farm is a haven for wildlife. Deer, foxes, badgers and all manners of endangered rare birds abound on the farm, due to the owners' conservationist policy. There is a small seal colony which can often be seen basking on the nearby rocks in the summer months.
You'll find plenty of safe private parking space in front of MORRACH, be it for cars or boats.

Other things to note
DIGITAL DETOX: You'll find a large screen TV + DVD Player at Morrach, but bear in mind there is no WIFI and mobile reception is quite poor.
However, there is a FREE WIFI Cafe in St NInian's Hall, only 1.2 mile from cottage, which by the way serves delicious, very reasonably priced breakfasts (cf Feedback from previous guests) and enjoys unbeatable sea views.

Whithorn, United Kingdom

The area is well-known for its lovely sandy beaches at low tide (i.e. Monreith ; Rigg Bay) and amazing walks (coastal walk just across from Morrach ; St Ninian's Walk ; Kilsture Forest.)
Amongst the best local attractions are, to name but a few: Wigtown National Booktown & Farmers'Market, Creetown Gem Rock Museum, Laggan Outdoor Centre with one of the longest Zip Wires in Europe, the Cocoa Bean Company and Cream of Galloway (Ice-Creams) both near "arty" Kirkcudbright, renowned for its museums and art galleries.
Logan Botanic Garden is well worth the detour for its sub-tropical ferns alone & there is a great variety of excellent gardens open to the public from Easter onwards due to our mild, Gulf-Stream induced micro-climate.
Here you will be able to enjoy some of the clearest night skies in the U.K, use one of the 7 Stanes cycle tracks with routes for all abilities in Kirroughtree Forest, or simply RELAX & sample fresh, delicious seafood from any of the quaint little restaurants hidden in the many remote fishing villages dotted along the coastline. Pure Bliss!

This is what one of our August 2019 guests called VERITY, wrote after staying at Morrach . Unfortunately VERITY missed Airbnb deadline for sending Feedback, but still ... her comments might help other guests? "Please excuse this very late Thank You for a most wonderful stay at your delightful cottage in the Isle of Whithorn... we absolutely fell in love with the place and would love to stay again one day. Your instructions and guidance for where to visit were so helpful and enabled us to make the most of our week at yours. What a fabulous cottage! You could not have done any more to make us feel so welcome. We realise we have run out of time to write a review for Airbnb but if there is any other way we could recommend your place we would do like to do so! It’s a hidden treasure made even more lovely by your warm welcome and efficient communications.
