Description

The space

Guests are welcome to use the front porch, living room, dining room, kitchen, two bedrooms and both baths. The sewing room will be locked, and the back yard is off limits. I live just upstairs with my two dogs. This building is the first duplex built in Raleigh in 1904, and normal family noises can be heard, such as stair steps and you will hear the dogs running around above you. As the evening approaches, the household settles down.

Guest access

My home has a large front porch with rocking chairs and a swing that guests are welcome to use. The backyard is not accessible except as an emergency exit. Please do not open back door as my dogs will more than likely be in their play area, and will bark their heads off!

Interaction with guests

I will be staying in an apartment above the guest's rental and will be able to help should the need arise, for example for repairs or questions. I have lived in downtown Raleigh over 30 years and can help with activity and driving recommendations. If you do not need me, you will not see me! I respect your absolute privacy!

The neighbourhood

I live in a historic neighborhood that was almost razed by the city for a four lane thoroughfare. A group of neighbors banned together and fought the city to preserve this historic neighborhood. I am proud to be part of that tradition. It is a beautiful neighborhood to walk in and you will see many folks out walking their dogs and visiting with each other. Here is a link to the Oakwood Walking Guide, which details the history of the houses by address:

Getting around

We are only minutes away from everything going on in downtown Raleigh, which includes festivals, restaurants, art events and wonderful science museums!

Other things to note

Check-in time is no sooner than 3:00 pm for cleaning. Please make travel plans accordingly. Due to past abuses, I no longer allow early check-ins. Guests are free to park at the house early and stroll the neighborhood or attend an event downtown.

Simple booking, entry and exit process. Lauren is a great host. Location is very good, calm leafy and relaxing, 12min walk to downtown Raleigh and 70% of the city seems to be a sub $10 Uber.

Home was well equipped with plenty of bath supplies. Kitchen had everything we needed. Beds were very comfortable, and it was quiet. Fabulous location. We walked just a couple of blocks to the Governor's Mansion, then on past old homes, most of which have been restored as offices now, government and private. Then on just a few blocks more, past Peace University and to 18 Seaboard, a really great upscale seafood restaurant.

This is my fourth stay at Lauren's. The home is spotless, with a great quiet location between a coffee shop and local restaurant. Lauren is quick to respond and really went the extra mile to help me find a place to stay at the last minute. A true gem of a host. A wonderful place to sleep and reflect on life.

The house was great, neighborhood was beautiful, and perfect for our family. There was a miscommunication that could have been spoken about before jumping to conclusions. We were able to resolve. Thank you.

Lauren's home was wonderful. Very comfortable beds, great internet, and a very cozy real southern experience with a great front porch and antiques. Only a one night stay, but it made for a relaxing night on a work trip!

Lauren's place is a wonderful little gem in a walkable historic neighborhood adjacent to downtown. Great restaurants nearby (within a few blocks) as well as government buildings and museums. Walking into the home was like walking into my Grandmothers house, between the smells of the old house, photographs, New Orleans art, antiques and creative structuring, one is in for an experience. Check in and check out were quite easy and the full kitchen was a nice feature that we did not get to utilize. Cozy beds too... I would recommend to anyone looking at being in historic Raleigh for business or for pleasure

Baby boomer retired from the corporate business life, but still not sure where I want to go, what I want to do and how much work I want to do (or not do!) I love historic homes and own three of them in downtown Raleigh.

Originally from South Louisiana, I moved to Raleigh in 1984 to work with IBM. I love to sew and am currently designing and making handbags. I also love to cook and can make a mean gumbo!

I have two dogs that are the absolute loves of my life.
