About this listing
A secluded cosy haven for a peaceful stay in the old village of Cheddar.
Situated in our walled garden, with its own access, The Pigsty is a beautifully clean, light and private retreat. The lobby area is perfect for coats, boots and even bikes.
The bedroom looks out on to our walled garden, with something in flower most of the year round, and wisteria growing overhead!
There is a super comfy king size bed, extendable breakfast table and two chairs. If you have a young child there is plenty of space for a cot/travel bed. Children are very welcome but you will need to bring your own travel bed. We can provide extra bedding on request.
The private wetroom has a shower, sink and WC, shaving mirror and heated towel rail.
Teas, coffee and a kettle are provided in the room.
There is no TV but free wifi is provided.
With your own front door and electronic keypad access you can come and go as you please once you've checked in. You'll get to The Pigsty through our garden. You can park off road on our drive.
Interaction with guests
We live in the main house and will be on hand throughout your stay to answer questions, give directions or recommendations, and provide breakfast as an optional extra if you would like it (pastries, toast, preserves, cereal, yoghurt and fruit for £6 per person). Beccy runs a catering business, Doorstep Dinners, with 5* food hygiene rating from our home.
Cheddar is home to the famous Cheddar Gorge and Caves. Walking and cycling are both extremely popular and there are routes to suit all ages and abilities. If you like a pitstop, there are plenty of local pubs serving food all year round and, for the more adventurous, climbing and other outdoor activities can be arranged in the village and nearby.
We live in the old village, away from the hustle and bustle of the major tourist areas but within easy walking distance (5-30 minutes depending on your speed and route!) of everything you will want to see.
Cheddar is an excellent base for exploring the Mendip Hills, which are a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Leaflets in your room and the local tourist info can provide lots of useful information about the area and its many attractions. The Visit Somerset website is also very helpful.
There are local buses to get you around the immediate area, and you can get here by bus from the train station in Weston Super Mare. Buses can also take you to Bridgwater, Weston Super Mare, Street and historic cathedral city Wells. There are affordable taxis from Bristol Airport if you're coming from further afield. We can recommend a local taxi service, and there are footpaths and cycle routes aplenty!
The Cheddar Village website offers more detailed information and links to transport providers.
Other things to note
The Pigsty has its own secure entrance area where you are welcome to hang your coats and hats, leave your muddy boots (after a walk up the famous Cheddar Gorge), or even safely store your bikes.
Guests may bring one car only and park considerately on our drive. Please ask on arrival where to park as we share the drive with our neighbours.
Please respect that this is also our home. If you come and go at night, we can hear you if you make a lot of noise, so please be considerate.
We politely ask that you do not smoke on our property, and we have a no pets policy.
We expect the room to be left as you find it, clean and tidy and with no damage or missing decorations. If something happens during your stay and you think we won't like it...please tell us, we'd much rather hear it from you than find it later!
