This house is located right below Japanese alps, where you can enjoy outdoor in mountains, rivers and lakes throughout four seasons. We moved to this area from Tokyo because this area is not commercialized, but intact from urbanization. So if you are looking for something different than usual sightseeing, here could be the place to visit. This house used to be a ski ryokan, and we renovated it by ourselves with abandoned and local materials to maintain nice and old Japanese architectural taste.

The space

Japanese traditional houses usually have less isolation and smaller rooms, but in order to solve the problems, this house was designed by a young prized architect and renovated by ourselves. Please come and see how it changed.

To make a big place where people can gather, we combined 4 rooms into one, placing a big wood stove in the center, so that guests can gather there to relax. Private room is Japanese tatami room, but we have prepared 15cm thick mattress so that everyone can sleep comfortably without hurting your back.

Guest access

You will have your own private room. You can also use shared kitchen, two toilets and shower. We also have huge living room as in the pictures, so please feel free to use it, too.

Interaction with guests

We moved to here from Tokyo after working in the big city more than 10 years to spend more relaxing time. We are a married couple with one baby boy, and are very quiet and calm people. We love DIY, cooking and sharing experience with guests.

Other things to note

Japanese traditional houses are less isolated than western ones, but we renovated living space with very thick isolation. So you can spend with T-shirt and half pants in kitchen space. But you might feel cold in private rooms, so we placed oil heating in each room as well as hot water heating pad in your bed, which you might feel too hot.

A real escape from the city. The house and location are both beautiful. We had a great time exploring the area on borrowed bikes (thanks Chie!). Chie was a generous host - she did everything she could to make sure we had a good stay. She even helped us buy our tickets back to Tokyo after we missed a seat on the bus. A great place in the Japanese Alps!

Chie is a fantastic host! The place was clean and comfy (especially the kitchen and living room area), and I had some fantastic dinners with her and other guests. She also speaks good English and can give advice for hiking, trips, etc. The area is beautiful, with great mountain views and many opportunities for biking, hiking, watersports, and so on. Highly recommended!!!

Chie's place is good for hiking lovers.the Japanese food they served are delicious.and thier room is clean.tidy and comportable. You can walk or have a bike ride around the village.they will afford the bike for free. It's very awsome! And the landlord is a very nice person.we had a little accident when we lived there.and he solved it for us before we left.really appreciate for that. Recommend to who likes hiking and quite country life in Japan!

Chie, Hayashi and little Yuki have been terrific hosts. They made me feel at home from the moment I arrived and have been incredibly helpful during my stay. This is easily one of the best airbnb's I've ever visited. I'll definitely come back here!

We had an incredible experience and would highly recommend this Airbnb. The hosts are not only Kind and generous but they cook great dinners and keep a very clean home! They were great about transporting us to anywhere and helpful with any questions we had. They create a friendly environment that fosters great connections with travelers staying with them. We got a bad cold before coming and they were caring and provided a very relaxing environment.

I had a wonderful stay! Warm and caring hosts. Chie makes delicious dinner, some ingredients from the garden or neighbors! Beautiful surroundings, perfect for a hike or just strolling/biking nearby. Hayashi drove me/other guests to super market, onsen etc. Loved the relaxed atmosphere, to be able to experience a stay in a small town, in an old japanese house with friendly hosts and guests, close to nature. Strongly recommend this place!

Hi, we moved to this place from Tokyo after working in the big city more than 10 years to pursuit relaxing life. I used to work at real estate company and my husband used to work at financial industry. We both love nature, outdoor, art, and architecture. We renovate this house by ourselves. We study farming, natural dyeing, climbing and so on. If you are interested in Japanese rural living or want to relax in a quiet area, please visit us:)
