Guest access

This is your apartment for the time of your stay.
Make yourself at home!

Interaction with guests

We love to hang out or have a meal with our guests when we have the time!

We are only one email or phone call away from you, if you need us.
Since both Daisuke and I are working, in rare cases we might not be able to meet you in person for a check in / check out
In these cases we would like to ask you to do a "self check in /check out" from a key box.
We will let you know the details before your arrival! ;)

Other things to note

Japanese apartments typically have very thin walls, sometimes thin enough to hear your neighbour sneeze and doors slam!

Please note that the Bamboo House house is such an apartment, located on the GROUND FLOOR of the building. Though being in a residential area, it is still located in the center of Shinjuku in a very safe, residential are only 15 minutes walk from the hustle and bustle of Kabukicho or Shinjuku Downtown.
The house is located next to a school and might not be the best choice for light sleepers or lovers of silence ;)

If you wish to experience the *real* Japanese lifestyle (with a lot more comfort though), then this house is for you! :)

As you already know, Japan is an earthquake prone country.
We have made the Bamboo House as earthquake safe as possible.
We will provide a manual of what to do in case of a stronger earthquake during your stay.

Rainy Season (Tsuyu) in June-July
In most of Japan, the rainy season lasts from the beginning of June to mid July, we provide free umbrellas, but recommend you to bring yourself some waterproof (foot) wear

LOCATION OF THE HOUSE (Enviroment Noise)
Japanese apartments typically have very thin walls, sometimes thin enough to hear your neighbour sneeze and doors slam!

Please note that the Bamboo House house is such an apartment, located on the ground floor of the building. Though being in a residential area, it is still located in the center of Shinjuku, right next to a school and might not be the best choice for light sleepers or lovers of silence.

Because there is no (reasonable) way of staying in Central Shinjuku without compromizing with the Japanese living enviroment and lifestyle, we would recommend guests with a strong wish for absolute silence to better look for a different place! :)

NOISE (Noise inside the apartment)
Excited conversations and loud laughter may travel to your neighbors´ bedrooms and vice versa. Thus we ask you to be considerate and modest with making noise (especially in the early morning hours and in the evening after 9 pm).

A word about safety. The apartment is on the ground floor but this is no reason for concern, because it is located in a very safe area (there are almost no unsafe areas in Japan in general ;) )
The entrance door is secured with an automatic key and there is a camera safety system installed in the whole building.

Nevertheless, we recommend and ask you - using common sense - to never leave the doors and windows open when you are not at home

Based on terrible experience we had to make, we ask you to treat our house like your own house.
Handle our house with care and leave it in an agreeable clean state, because it is our home and not a random hotel room.

If the house is left in a bad state (big amounts of trash, chaos in the rooms, unwashed dishes etc) and takes a lot more time than an average cleaning would, a penalty fee of 5,000 yen for our extra effort and time will be taken from your deposit.

Please be kind to the neighbors. If you should run into anyone, a smile will do the trick :)

Also, if you get asked about staying in an "AIRBNB" in any kind of question by anyone in the building, we ask you to simply answer:
"we are friends of Gizem / Daisuke!". Smile and walk away. There is no need for further interaction.

Please don´t misunderstand us, we don´t want you to lie for us, in fact we hope you´d actually like to be our friends! ;)
We are NOT hosting illegally and are operating with the house owner's OK, plus, properly paying taxes, which makes us different from almost 80% of all Airbnb hosts in Tokyo.

This is important because recently the Japanese media had been overflowing with reports about illegal hosting and hosts mis-using state-funded housing for earning money through Airbnb or similar sites.

Additionally there have been reported cases of trouble with neighbors due to noise or the wrong separation of trash.
These are all points we would like you to have an eye on, because this will part of your Airbnb experience :)
Thank you!

No smoking allowed neither in the apartment, nor on the balcony. You can smoke infront of the building, which is not a problem :)
In Japan smoking is only permitted in designated spots, mostly to be found in front of konbinis (convenience stores) or tobacco shops.
There is a Family Mart convenience store only a 3 minutes walk from our house where you can buy tobacco :)

Tokyo is very strict about separating trash.
We would be grateful if you can separate the trash into the designated trash boxes in our kitchen and at the garbage dump. Improper separation can be fined and will possibly get us into trouble with the house owners

Please do not answer the door, even if the door bell rings, other than if we have a scheduled meeting :)

Check - In / Check - Out
Check In time for our guests is from 4 pm (16:00)
Check Out is at 10 am (10:00)

We kindly ask our guests to check out at 10 am, so the cleaning personnel can enter the room to prepare it for the next guests.

*Please be aware of our rules and only proceed with your booking if you can agree with our conditions. Thank you!*

Lovely little flat in a great location. Gizem is a brilliant host and nothing was too much bother, she was always there to answer any questions and to help. Would definitely recommend and would definitely go back. It's within walking distance of Shinjuku but far enough away for it to be quiet and peaceful. Great place!

The place was very central, and had absolutely everything you needed including a hairdryer, iron, and toiletries. Gizem went the extra mile in making it feel personalized and comfortable. She was also great at keeping in touch - not only before our arrival but during the trip to make sure everything was going alright. From the house you can walk to many cool places as well as take public transport to just about anywhere. Thanks for everything, Gizem!!! We can't wait to return.

My Girlfriend and ny experience of Shinjuku and Tokyo was greatly helped by Gizem and Daisuke. The apartment was perfect for our needs, quiet area to relax, excellent transport connections and food options only a short walk away. We were greeted with some excellent personal touches and also precise directions prior to arriving in Tokyo. We could tell there had been a lot of thought put in to he room to make it homely for our stay. A extra which was included was portable wifi, this proved very useful in navigating our way around a huge place like Tokyo and made our trip so much easier. I do not have a bad word to say about this property and would recommend this to anyone wanting to come to Tokyo. Thanks again Gizem and Daisuke!

A little gem in the most amazing city! Booked for 5 nights and was greated on arrival by Gizem and her husband. The apartment was really clean and tidy and Gizem was the most welcoming host, providing my partner and I with lots of information about the city. Plus the power point presentation on how to get to the apartment by rail was very very considerate and made the journey so much easier. Located in a great part of Tokyo, it's easy to get around and see the sights. Shinjuku at night is just something out of this world and within walking distance from the apartment. The only thing missing was a TV but overall a lovely place with wonderful and accommodating hosts. Thank you Gizem

Konnichiwaaaaaa - Cool that you're here!

I´m Gizem, German with Turkish roots, married to a Japanese and have been living in Tokyo for almost 3 years now. Admittedly a wild mix, which makes things really interesting ;)
Me and hubs met at "Gala Yuzawa" ski resort and these are 10 things we can't live without:

1) snowboarding

2) travelling

3) slurping thick brothy Ramen, scoffing down juicy Japanese BBQ, chowing down tender Shabu Shabu and munching local delicacies of places we travel!!
We appreciate tips for local eateries and have prepared a map to share with you the best eateries in the area of our house!

4) loud Metal and (almost) all kinds of Rock music \m/

5) movies and dramas (from "Married with Kids" to "Breaking Bad", haha)

6) dogs! especially our Shitzu/Chihuahua mix "Shiro" (I love all animals)

7) concerts & festivals (I've been a passionate festival and concert hopper since my 20's and had the chance to enjoy over a 100 concerts, of big and small artists (but still hope to see Phil Collins some day *__* )

8) the German Christmas Market and all its delicacies and Gluehwein!

9) our families and friends of course

10) eachother (aww)

I would describe my hosting style as a mix of Japanese "omotenashi" culture, German accuracy and Turkish warmness. From me as your host and as your guest, you can expect thoroughness, kindness, authenticity , honesty and cleanliness. I will do my best to make your stay at our house as comfortable and smooth as possible and will treat your home with the utmost respect.

Hosting cool people and genuine travelers is a real pleasure and I enjoy my job a lot!
If you've read this far, it means you're honestly interested in us and we are very grateful for that. THANKS!

Combined we speak English, Japanese, Turkish and German and will be glad to assist with any questions :)

Looking forward to hosting you in your Tokyo Home!

If you´re into exploring local cuisine and tasting a broad variety of food, combined with cultural background and insider info, I got you covered!
Depending on my schedule, I offer Local Tours for Food-Lovers in Tokyo, where you can just kick back and enjoy the local delicacies without worrying about language barriers and wasting your precious time on tourist trap restaurants.
Leave it all to me!

Additionally Japanese home cooking lessons are also available :-)
